Light Observation #8

1. Sunday, March 23, Emily Lowe room 11o, approximately 7:15

2. Light from the setting sun hitting the top of the playhouse

3. After being fully engrossed in my draftings, I took a moment to gaze out the window. At that precise moment, the setting sun hit the playhouse in such a way that the building turned pink. The darkening blue provided a stark difference between the two colors.

Light Observation

1. March 27th, ~6pm

2. I was driving home for spring break wearing my sunglasses and the sun came in from the side at just the right angle.

3. The sun was at just the right angle so that the light slanted in through the window and reflected off the inside of my sunglasses and back into my eye. It was bright, golden and warm. It made everything glow around me, and it perfectly silhouetted the tall trees I was walking past. Normally, I enjoy theses lighting moments. I like noticing the world around me, but this one was while I was driving and the reflection back into my eye was a little blinding. That gave this lighting kind of a schizophrenic effect – making me feel warm and happy but also quite discombobulated.

3. Desire

4. Although the lighting is done with no other colors than pure white light, the image still brings across the feeling of desire. This is done through the positioning of the subjects and the expressions on their faces. The color of the red dress also helps convey the feeling. Most importantly, it’s the high contrast that brings the desire out. The stark shadows make everything look simultaneously fluid and sharp, creating an easy tension that is often synonymous to the feeling that desire brings about.
