Light Observation 4

Location: My lounge, 2am

Objective: I was binge-watching season 3 of Game of Thrones with my friends Caitrin and Alex with all the lights off except for a strand of red, green, and white Christmas lights. I noticed how the light was reflecting off everything, from the white walls to the posters. It illuminated the room more than I’d ever noticed before, and made the gore of Game of Thrones seem all the more terrible.

Subjective: The lights seemed to shine brighter than usual. It danced through the rays of light coming from the TV, and everything seemed to be happening in hi-def. I could almost see all the separate colored waves of light bouncing from wall to wall, off of all our posters, and made Game of Thrones that much more intense.

Photo Observation 4

I took this photo myself on the way back to campus as my dad and I were crossing the Verrazano-Narrows bridge. It felt very mysterious to me because of the fact that the road seems to have no end because of the fog, and you can barely see the top of the bridge. This was the first time it was ever this foggy, so it gave me a really uneasy feeling until we made it to the other side of the bridge.

Misty Fields Below Street Lights

  1. Location: February 23, 12:40 am at the soccer fields near Colonial Square West entrance.
  2. Objective: Street lights are surrounding the soccer field, lighting shine down upon the layer of mist. The entire field is lit up, but is unable to penetrate into the grass.
  3. Subjective: Since there is mist covering the grass, there is the question about what is underneath it. What is hidden under the fog of night? There is a eery feeling that something is hiding underneath, wanting to get out. The look of this field makes me believe that an undead underworld or limbo is leaking into the land of the living. All in all, this misty field is a haunting sight to see.

  2. Mysterious
  3.  The photo has dim lighting and the moon isn’t shown in the picture so I thought that was kind of curious and mysterious. I always associate mystery with curiosity and eeriness. The picture is just lit enough to create a reflection of the trees off the water and the fog makes it so that you can’t see where the land stops and the water begins which I think is mysterious.

Light Observation

  1. Wednesday 2:15am in my dorm room.
  2. The light I saw was coming from my roommates phone. she was FaceTiming her boyfriend at an absurd hour of the night. the light was bright white and annoying.
  3. As I tossed and turned in my uncomfortable dorm bed, I was kept awake by the bright white obnoxious light of the iPhone 6s. It was 2:15 in the morning, don’t you think people (meaning me) would want to fall asleep without having to ignore such a light at full brightness and a loud conversation? Staring at this light made me angry because it shouldn’t have been there.

Light Observation

  1. 2/22/17 around 11:00 pm, looking out my dorm window
  2. There are many police cars and two ambulances on the Hempstead turnpike in front of Lawrence Street. Bright red and blue lights are flashing.
  3. There is a certain fear associated with seeing the lights of a police cruiser, whether it is driving up behind you or zooming past. Seeing them all condensed into one area tending to a car accident was a different fear. As an outsider, I was looking onto the situation I knew nothing about, but it was obviously bad. I was able to walk back to my desk and get back to working on homework, but the people involved in that could not simply forget about it.

Mystery Mist

  1. I took this photo from my dorm window at 8 AM 2/23/17
  2. Mysterious
  3. It is a very dreary morning. The approaching warm weather has caused an eery mist to hang over Oak Street. The sun is not able to shine through the clouds. Mist always reminds me of the 2007 film The Mist based on the Stephen King novella. It’s not hard to imagine what kind of monsters could be lurking in a heavy fog. The real mystery is why I woke up on my own accord two hours early.

3. Mysterious

4. When I think of mysterious I tend to think of things that are darker with shadows and trees. I like this picture for those reasons. Its not quite symmetrical which makes my brain confused which adds to the mysteriousness of the picture. I also like how it takes a minute of looking to realize that there are signs and a light on the street. You can’t really see where the trees end or where the road goes which also helps lend itself to the mysteriousness.

Light Observation

  1. Monday 2/20/17 around 9:00 pm
  2. There is a lamp on top of a night stand in the corner of the room shining bright.
  3. I was relaxing on my bed either on my phone or laptop just lounging around and stressing about homework and going back to school. At this moment the ceiling light in our room is on. I turned it off and my sister decides to turn on the lamp in the corner. Suddenly I felt calmer and at ease. My problems were not solved but it was fascinating to see the change of my mood when the light in the room changes. Since it was a little light and it was in the corner it made the room dim. The light from the lamp was very bright only in the spot it was in. Looking at the bright light illuminating brighten up the mood and observing how the further away I was from the light makes me feel comfortable and sleepy.

  3. I take an interest in this picture as being mysterious because of the shadow and the color. I love the purple because it has an eerie vibe. The purple is also light enough to reflect a shadow. The shadow has an unknown story. We can see there is a shadow but we don’t know exactly what it is. It could be a person, animal, object etc. Who knows… it is a mystery.
