Light Observation 6

Date.Time.Location-3/13/19.12:00 AM. My bedroom.

Objective Description- I’ve recently made a purchase for a new lamp for my bedroom. Experimenting with the lamp settings one night I decided to run it on the dimmest setting. This dim lighting managed to fill my bedroom entirely in its dull and yet powerful yellow light.

Subjective Description- When the sun fully returns to its place of rest as the moon begins to spread its radiant silver light across the expansive and dismal sky, my bedroom has the potential to be enveloped in complete pitch blackness should the light switch remain off. This small lamp though its light remained dim, managed to provide a special kind of yellow tint to the room, the darkness remained but it was tinted and almost supplanted by this subtle and yet all too powerful yellow aura. This stood as a concrete reminder to me of how the darkness is never really darkened because there is always some form of light messing around in it waiting to be discovered. This yellow tint filled me with a sense of amazement and curiosity at just how much light can mesh with darkness to create these layers of dim light. The possibilities are truly endless and they are all right at my fingertips, they are mine to discover!

Light Observation 5

Date.Time.Location: 2/25/19 9:05 PM Somer Center Chapel at Concordia College

Objective Description: I sat within this massive church for a service on Monday night. The chapel has no windows and all of the lights were switched off. There was no light emanating from the room except for the ten small candle lights that surrounded the altar.

Subjective Description:It was quite the unusual experience to see a chapel without any windows except for the ones in the hallway directly outside of it. The doors leading to these windows were shut before service effectively draining out all of the natural light from the room. Soon after this, the ten candles surrounding the altar were lit and an unusual phenomenon managed to capture my attention. What started off as pitch black was soon illuminated as the ten small orange lights from these candles managed to gradually breathe life back into the room and seemed to envelop everybody and everything in their warm embrace. These small lights filled me with quite a jovial sense of hopefulness not only for the rest of the night that remained but for the day that was to come in a matter of hours. These tiny lights at first appeared small and soon grew to overtake the entire room, the cold of the night looked to dissipate and the hopeful and happy warmth from the candles ushered in a great sense of optimism in everyone around me for the events that were to come.

Light Observation

  1. Monday 2/20/17 around 9:00 pm
  2. There is a lamp on top of a night stand in the corner of the room shining bright.
  3. I was relaxing on my bed either on my phone or laptop just lounging around and stressing about homework and going back to school. At this moment the ceiling light in our room is on. I turned it off and my sister decides to turn on the lamp in the corner. Suddenly I felt calmer and at ease. My problems were not solved but it was fascinating to see the change of my mood when the light in the room changes. Since it was a little light and it was in the corner it made the room dim. The light from the lamp was very bright only in the spot it was in. Looking at the bright light illuminating brighten up the mood and observing how the further away I was from the light makes me feel comfortable and sleepy.
