Photo Observation

  1. Found on Flickr, taken by Alexander Rabb; https://www.flickr.com/photos/rt48state/6886088584
  2. There is nothing spookier than standing at a station waiting for the subway and watching as an empty car stops right in front of you, because you know that it’s never for a good reason and you definitely don’t want to get in it.  The angle of the picture, along with the lighting, help to enhance that effect.  The natural perspective of the image, the fluorescent lights, and the mute colors of the seat all heighten that abandoned feeling the car has.  In a place that is usually always busy and full of people, an empty subway car feels out of place and has an especially eerie feeling.

  2. Spooky
  3. I found this online and this picture fit the theme because to me dolls are spooky and the fact that she is crying is scary. She looks lonely on a chair and the light is coming from one direction from the middle left and it is the only light source. What makes the light source eerie is that it is a spot light only on the doll and then it fades into darkness. Also the shadow produced by the chair is creepy when you observe it because if we couldn’t see the doll you wouldn’t be able to tell what was on the chair or if the shadow was even a chair.

Light Observation

  1. Tuesday, March 21st, 11:30 pm, in the front seat of the car with m friends back in the Bronx.
  2. The bottom of the dashboard in the front seat of the car there were these blue LED lights attached to the car. The lights also came from near the bottom of the back doors in the back seat.
  3. I was cruising in the car with my friends after seeing a movie with them and while we were driving, my friend who was the driver put on these lights that lit up the car. It was a dim blue color that illuminated the car like a club. It was coming from the bottom so it also looked like a moment when you tell a story and turn on a flash light at the bottom of your face.

Lighting Observation 8

  1. 3/25/17, 10:30 PM, On the highway near the western border of New Jersey
  2. A car coming toward me on the highway had its high beams on.
  3. I was driving home from my spring break road trip when I saw a car headed toward me with its high beams on. It was blinding and made it even harder to see the road in the darkness. Being from California, most people have no use for high beams because the freeways are lighted. My roommate had to explain to me that the highways couldn’t be lighted because of the weather and how much upkeep it would require to light highways that were not in metropolitan areas. It was a learning experience, not only about how streets are lighted, but also how annoying it is when people aren’t polite and turn off their high beams when they see people coming toward them.

Light Observation

  1. Tuesday, March 28th; 8:06pm; Dorm room on 13th floor, window facing Hempstead Turnpike
  2. The infamous Hofstra birds circling in the low-hanging fog with the streetlamps creating an orange haze within.
  3. Every night without fail on the North side of campus, a flock of at least 30 birds circle, swoop, and dive within the sky, making my bedroom feel like part of a Hitchcock movie.  Tuesday night was especially Hitchcock-esque though with the fog; the gray fog was so thick it was opaque, and it made it even creepier when the birds would seem to appear out of thin air and then dive back into the fog.  The only thing able to break through the fog were the streetlights dotting Hempstead Turnpike and the side streets within Hempstead.  It lit up the city in a way unique to anything I had seen any other night.  Despite their spread being out of focus, the orange light coming from the lamps was the clearest thing in the night, like a beacon.  I don’t think Hitchcock could have created a better picture himself.

Photo Observation 8

  1. Taken by me in 2014
  2. Theme: Spooky
  3. This was taken by me when I came home one night after a rehearsal and my cat was looking at me in a very judgmental way. It felt very spooky because she was acting somewhat like a human. The only light that was on was the tiny side lamp next to the couch which my mom left on so I could get inside safely.

Light Observation

  1. 3/16/17, 10:30, behind Enterprise Hall
  2. A Hummer had a string of LED lights on the roof of the car, shining light on all surrounding objects.
  3. I walk past a long line of cars, but one stands out in particular. I see a large car to my left illuminating the night sky. This hummer had a string of LED lights completely covering the roof of the car. The bright blues and reds lit up the surrounding area, reflecting off of the snow and other cars. This created an odd colorful glow to the usual mundane light of the moon.

Lighting Observation #7

Date time location: 16th of March, 2 am, my dorm room.

Objective description: I was up working late and my roommate was already asleep so the only light in the room was the glaring screen of my laptop.

Subjective Description: While studying late, my eyes are branded with words, stamped by the blaring screen. The light is so bright that it blocks all else out, nothing to be seen by the endless dark night ahead, full of loneliness and empty texts. In the solitude of the light, there is no comfort, just blinding seclusion.

Photo Observation #7

From: Pintrest

Theme: Single light source

Description: The shadow of a predator looms in the door way, its size almost filling the hole and blocking out all light and possible escapes. The looming shadow strikes fear into those in the room, as they know that this kitten is very hungry and it was well past dinner time.

the steep angle of the the light makes this a very dramatically lit beer.  I chose a pint of Guinness because today is St. Patrick’s day
