Photo Observation

Taken by me around 8 pm on September 6th 2020 at the Mahoning Drive-In Theater

3) THEME: My Choice

4) DESCRIPTION: The white screen stood out against the distant sunset. Cars lined up along the grass eager for the movie to be shown. The edges of the trunk of my car made a window of their own to look through into the night.

Lighting Observation

DATE-TIME-LOCATION: April 30th 2021 at 7:03 pm, my dining room table

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Cell phone alarm going off in a dark room

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Class started at 7 pm but the alarm was still going off. The phone screen lit up the table in the dim room alerting my housemate to their missed class. Panic ensued within the living room as they rushed to get to school.

Lighting Observation

DATE-TIME-LOCATION: Sunday April 25th 5:05 pm

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The police car lights outside my house

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: I was sitting on the couch when I heard sirens go by, through the window a mix of reds and blues flashed continuously. It hurt my eyes. I looked outside to see a cop sitting at the neighbor’s house. This went on for some time. Finally, the angry reds and blues slowly drove off with a new passenger in tow.

Photo Observation

This photo is mine from June 8th 2019 at 9:29 pm, it was taken at The Pagoda in Reading, PA

3) THEME: Dealers Choice/Wild Card

4) DESCRIPTION: Vibrant reds and calming blues clashed in a cloud of purple as the two survey the city below them. Nothing is quiet, music is blaring and cars are flying by. The world is endless and they are on top.

3) THEME: Surreal

4) DESCRIPTION: Dark and gloomy clouds overhead with a slight hint of sun beckon the urban explorer. The green shades compliment all of the hues on the pavement.

Lighting Observation

DATE-TIME-LOCATION: Wednesday April 21st at 11:36 am

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: My housemate eating breakfast across from me at the table

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The living room was dark, only the window illuminated the table. Her breakfast burrito was surrounded by the soft white emitted from the cloudy day. I should have made one for myself, the light was calling me.

Fall Sunset in Vermont

SR Boom: 36° Source Four/ETC 436 – G905 – Dark Blue – 50% Intensity

SL Boom: 36° Source Four/ETC 436 – G905 – Dark Blue – 50% Intensity

When I picture a sunset in Vermont in the fall I imagine people standing near a lake on the edge of the forest. The sky is a mix of pinks, blues, and purples, with a heavy accent of oranges. I wanted to try to keep all of those colors in the design but have them mix coherently.

Easter Sunrise in a Gothic Cathedral

LIGHTS USED:

3rd Pipe: Cyc #1 – R4260 – Cal 60 Blue – 10% Intensity, Cyc #4 – R121 – Blue Diffusion – 30% Intensity

1st Pipe: 36° Source Four/ETC 436 – R151 – Hamburg Lavender – Gobo 608 – Church Window – 100% Intensity, Par 64wfl/GE FFS – R55 – Lilac – 30% Intensity, 6” Fres/Altman – R310 – Daffodil – 20% Intensity

SR Boom: 36° Source Four/ETC 436 – R46 – Magenta – 30%

SL Boom: 26° Source Four/ETC 426 – R14 – Medium Straw – 30% Intensity

FOH: 26° Source Four/ETC 426 – R2460 – Forgot this colors name – 10% Intensity

I have never attended a church service during Easter but when I hear Gothic Cathedral I immediately picture the Hunchback of Notre Dame.  I wanted to depict someone standing by the window looking out as they bask in the rising sun before the church fills with worshippers.

Noon on a hot summer day in the Caribbean

LIGHTS USED:

3rd Pipe: Cyc #3 – R313 – Light Relief Yellow – 70% Intensity

2nd Pipe: Par 64mfl/GE FFR – R64 – Light Steel Blue – 50% Intensity, Par 64mfl/GE FFR – R71 – Sea Blue – 30% Intensity

1st Pipe: 6” Fres/Altman – R72 – Azure Blue – 100% Intensity

SL Boom: 36° Source Four/ETC 436 – R363 – Aquamarine – 10% Intensity, 36° Source Four/ETC 436 – R365 – Tharon Delft Blue – 100% Intensity

SR Boom: 36° Source Four/ETC 436 – R363 – Aquamarine – 10% Intensity, 36° Source Four/ETC 436 – R365 – Tharon Delft Blue – 100% Intensity

FOH: 26° Source Four/ETC 426 – R05 – Rose Tint – 20% Intensity

I wanted this image to be someone swimming in the ocean under the intense sun. Noon is when the sun is at its highest point so it would be extremely bright. I wanted to incorporate that bright yellow and then give ocean vibes on the stage floor.

Winter Afternoon just before snow

LIGHTS USED:

3rd Pipe: Cyc #2 – R53 – Pale Lavender – 20% Intensity

2nd Pipe: Par 64mfl/GE FFR – R94 – Kelly Green – 100% Intensity, Par 64mfl/GE FFR – R77 – Green Blue  – 100% Intensity

1st Pipe: 6” Fres/Altman – R95 – Medium Blue Green – 100% Intensity

SR Boom: 36° Source Four/ETC 436 – R07 – Pale Yellow – 20% Intensity

FOH: 26° Source Four/ETC 426 – R362 – Tipton Blue – 40% Intensity

I wanted to capture the green grass that is usually still seen but covered in a blue frost. When I picture that it is about to snow the sky is usually a light grey with a hint of lavender, I wanted my model to be standing underneath the pale setting sun and everything seemingly quiet.

Lighting Observation

DATE-TIME-LOCATION:  Tuesday April 13th at 8:18 pm in my living room

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The LEDs from my computer screen

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: My retinas stung as I continued to type my 5th essay of the day. No other light was on except for the beam of bright white my laptop screen was emitting onto my face.

Photo Observation

This photo is from advertisements for the Korean production of Matilda

3) THEME: Inspiring

4) DESCRIPTION: The silhouettes amidst fog and a bright white spotlight both contrast the cool blue background and fits right into the picture at the same time. The little girl’s daring stance under the man towering over her not backing down illuminates the stage around her. Defiant she will be though she is small.
