Photo Observation #10 – Enchanted

  1. Found on http://freeandforme.org/2016/11/29/experience-enchanted-forest-of-light-at-descanso-gardens/
  2. Theme: Enchanted
  3.  The person seems to be staring directly into a hazy blue light. The light source is also giving off a dream-like haze or mist, symbolizing something otherworldly. The light is derived from the forest, usually seen as “enchanted” due to it being a common theme in parties or dances. The light seems to have layers of blue, making it appear like a portal to a magical place.

2. Mysterious

3.  To me there is nothing more mysterious than being told not to do something. These signs block access to the Aokigahara forest at the base of mount Fuji, also known as the forest of death. That can’t be known by just looking at this photo thought this sign is cutting off entry to what looks like a lovely forest. Beyond the ropes the sun shines through the trees making whats beyond look innocent, even if it isn’t.

Theme: Creepy

Description: This is the kind of forest from a horror movie, or a video game, or a nightmare. Take your pick, honestly. Although natural light is the only light present, it is masked by the thick fog permeating the forest. The fog pollutes the sun, which is normally a good thing, and turns it into something scary and unwelcoming. The way the silhouette trees fade into the background is quite creepy. There are no distinguishing landmarks, and something could jump out from the shadows at any time. It’s not a place I’d want to be at night – or during the day.

I wasn’t sure how to do the diagram for this post so I did it from the photographer’s point of view.

Theme: Hot

Description: I was amazed when I saw this picture, and it was even more impressive when I zoomed in on it. The way the orange sunlight filters through the clouds makes it look as if the sky is on fire, and few things in the world are hotter than fire. The stark contrast of the bright sky against the dark, quiet forest almost gives you the illusion that you’re standing on a mountain observing an enormous forest fire far away – but it’s just an optical illusion, which makes it particularly cool (or should I say hot) … (sorry for the lame joke.)
