Lighting observation #2

Location: About 9pm on Thursday 24th. South Campus, near Heger hall.

Objective Description: As I walk, I notice a point where a light behind a tree casts the tree’s shadow towards me, and that a light behind me casts my shadow towards the tree.

Subjective Description: I am at first interested, but unaffected emotionally or intellectually: “Oh, that’s cool,” I think, and continue walking. Somewhere in the time it takes me to pass by, I notice a sense of opposition and a sense of things being intertwined. Perhaps the movement of my own shadow as I walk in relation to the immobile shadow of the tree informed some change in my attitude. Unity and opposition are two interesting concepts to be reminded of in a single image – they are so very different.
