Lighting Observation – part eleven

4/23/2024 – 6:35 pm – Inside black box theatre

Objective: The dark theatre is completely dark until a single light source is provided by the ghost light.

Subjective: In the black box theatre, the surroundings itself is a black hole. Everything inside the room is black, with no natural light source available to squeeze its way through the dark room. The ghost light, protects the theatre with its single source, providing a little light to all. This small light brings the newcomers into the space with ease and less tension when provided.

A winter afternoon in North Dakota

For winters, there is this natural feeling where people would associate winter colors with the cold being just blue. I wanted to show more of the very light white-blue color effect during one of the aftermath of a blizzard.

Lights used:

  1. G L201, DS Right, full intensity, 90 degrees
  2. G L201, CS Right, 50% intensity, 90 degrees
  3. G CC68, US Right, full intensity, 90 degrees
  4. G L201, DS Left, full intensity, 90 degrees
  5. G L201, CS Left, full intensity, 90 degrees
  6. G CC68, US Left, full intensity, 90 degrees
  7. 100, DS Right, 25% intensity, 90 degrees
  8. 100, DS Left, 25% intensity, 90 degrees

Lighting Observation – part ten

4/16/2024 – 1:20 pm – Outside of Emily Lowe

Objective: The bright sunlight beaming across the lawn shines onto the relaxing students of Hofstra.

Subjective: In the warm, glowing heat of the sunlight provides a white and yellow-ish tint onto the students spread out across the lawn. This light makes the scenery feel light and happy compared to the recent cold and miserable rainy days.

Lighting Observation – part nine

4/10/2024 – 11:54 pm – Hammer Lab

Objective: The overhead lights reflect off the hammer lab’s dark windows.

Subjective: The bright intensity of the led lights hanging in the ceiling tiles provides an over-sensory feeling for the students working in the room. Since the lights are unnaturally bright, the lights reflect against the windows into the dark night, giving the human eye only the reflection on the glass instead of the outside nightlife before them.

This advertisement represents McDonalds, specifically the french fries. This look gives a warm, vibrant, classy feeling, to bring an elegant look of celebration for a fast food restaurant.

Lighting Observation – part eight

4/2/2024 – 10:18 pm – Hauge House, Netherlands Core

Objective: Two phone screens light up the small surroundings of the phone owner’s faces in a dark room.

Subjective: Since the weather is completely dark and stormy, the outside surroundings are gloomier than on a clear night. Plus, with no headlights turned on, the bedroom is darker than usual. The soft orange glow from the cellphones of the people in the room directs more attention to the light source. The color of the phone screen is easier to adjust to the eye since the phone’s brightness is set for nighttime.

This advertisement represents McDonald’s, as the plug insert is portrayed as a french fry container for the company. However, what is the most interesting is the lighting representation for the french fries. The light source that is provided by the wall plug has the angle of the light shown shooting upwards, along with a gobo effect to show french fry shapes. This shows a creative way to show off the company’s food items without using the actual food sources.

Lighting Observation – part seven

3/28/2023 –  10:23 pm – Enterprise Hall

Objective: The lights in the window reflect the nightlife at Hofstra campus.

Subjective: The above light is off in the bedroom, and only the nightlife lights from the outside window shed some light. Given how the storm is brewing outside, only the very soft glow of the street lamps and lights in the neighboring towers shine through the window.
