Light Observation #5

  1. Date: 2/27/2019, 2 AM in my house.
  2. Objective Observation: I woke up from sleep cause I felt so hungry at that point. So I walked to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator looking for something to eat. The yellow light in the fridge suddenly felt so bright compared to how it feels during the day.
  3. Subjective Observation: Since the light in my house was all out, it was completely dark when I walked into the kitchen. Therefore the light lightbulb in the refrigerator was the only light source at that time. The surrounding made the little yellow light feel much warmer than during the daytime. The food in the fridge also looked more delicious to me because of the warm yellow light on it. (Or I was just too hungry)

Photo Observation #5

  1. A shot from the film The Third Man
  2. With the tunnel drawing to a vanishing point, the light source in this shot can be considered as one single point, which applies to the theme very well. From the viewer’s perspective, the man almost blocks the whole vision to the end of the tunnel because he is very close to us. So that we don’t know what is out there at the end where the light is from, which creates a sense of being trapped and blocked. That’s because in a dark environment, we tend to look for some light, as if the light is the hope.

Lighting Observation #5

Date, Time, Location: 2/28/19, 7:55pm, John Crawford Adams Playhouse

Objective Description: There is a light all the way upstage and closer to stage right that is hidden behind some different ropes. It was creating a backlit image.

Subjective Description: This light had made me feel like the ropes were mysterious because you couldn’t see any detail from the angle of where I was standing. It is also one of the only warmer lights in the entire backstage.

Lighting Observation 5

Date: 2/25/19; evening; Hofstra parking lot

Objective: A light from a street lamp illuminates the shards of a destroyed set piece.

Subjective: To sound melodramatic it felt as though the light was shining on a crime I’ve done. As if I had destroyed a life essence by destroying the piece.

Taken By Me in early February
Single light source coming from the sun as it peeks through the parking garage pillars
Some people tend to overlook the beautiful scenery that can appear in everyday life and how picturesque those moments can be.

Photo Observation #5

Taken by me on Feb 28, 2019 in my dorm room on my iPhone

It was hard for me to find single light sources so I decided to create my own. I used my desk lamp as the only light on, and above it are some of my paintings. I was surprised at how the light was able to light up the paintings above so well were.

Lighting Observation #5

Date/time/location: 2-28-19, 7 pm Nassau Collesium

I was at the Islanders game tonight and before the game started, they had a video presentation to pump the fans up. They started by having a single light project onto the ice which was projecting the entire hype up video. I was amazed that they weren’t using more than one light source to project the images.

2: One light source infront of The Space At Westbury

3: I was just getting out of work at 2:00am. My boyfriend at the time and I were walking to his car and saw this shoe and it reminded us of Cinderella’s shoe left on the steps. Later we found out the shoe belonged to a woman involved in an altercation in Westbury.

Light Observation #5

Date/Time/Location: 2/27/2019, 6:30 pm, Hofstra Dorm Room

Objective Description: I was cat sitting my friends little mush. While I’m laying there she had her LED strips on for her plants, Wall lights, and her fish tank lights.

Subjective Description: There were so many sources of light around me. Even though one would think that it would be overly stimulating I was actually quite relaxed.

Lighting Observation 5

The Adams Playhouse, Friday, February 22nd, at some point after 8:00, but before 10:00
Brian had been playing with different lighting things he could do for the show, and had dimmed the lights on the balcony, and added flickering reddish-orange lights spaced out along the wall.
The lighting was intended to give the illusion of a dungeon, with torches placed along the walls. It was unfortunately cut from the final product but getting to see that lighting was so awe-inspiring. Watching it, I genuinely felt like the scene was taking place in a dungeon, and it was able to take me out of the space, out of the Globe stage, and made me truly see the space as the tower.
