Four Seasons Lighting Project
1. A Fall Sunset in Vermont: For this scene I decided to have a yellow light at the center of the stage concentrated on the subject. I then layered on two dimmer orange lights in order to create the effect of the sun’s rays as they shift from yellow to orange. I then added four very dim purple lights in order to capture the affect of when the sunset turns the sky purple. I used a soft focus as well in order to capture the warm feeling of a sunset.
2. Easter in a Gothic Cathedral: For this scene I decided to use pink, purple and yellow colors, which are colors that I often associate with Easter. I used the spotted gobo in order to create a patterned appearance on the subject. I thought that this created both the affect of light shining through stained glass as well as the patterns you would see on Easter eggs. Finally I used two green lights with the spotted gobo as well in order to create the feeling of grass.
3. Noon on a Hot Summer Day in the Caribbean: For this scene I decided to have five yellow spots set to soft focus all beaming down directly on the subject. This created the affect of a sun beaming down on someone. I then added two blue lights dimmed to 50% and set to spotted at medium focus in order to created the affect of the ocean waves on a beach.
4. Winter Afternoon Just Before Snow: For this scene I started with a single overhead spotlight with no color to highlight the subject. I then used six different spots with blue and purple and various patterns in order to create the affect of a gloomy day with clouds overhead, when the flurries of snow just begin to fall but it’s not quite snowing yet.
