Lighting Ob #9

  1. 4/12/2016, 2:40pm, My dorm room
  2. Objective: Light coming in from the window ass well as the light supplied by the 5-bulb lamp in my room
  3. Subjective: The feel of the lighting is warm and calm but also mixed with a tinge of dullness. The warm light is coming from the lamp where it gives off a yellow/amber color that gives the room a warm feeling. The light from outside is much more dull because of the rain that happened earlier. It’s still quite cloudy outside so the light is more gray with small streaks of white light.

light observation

1) March 15th – 7:15 am

2) The sunrise is shining through my window, illuminating my lamp, which was turned on as I woke up before sunrise, and the shadow of the lamp on the wall is interesting because it’s one of those multiple-bulb lamps with only a few bulbs on at a time, so like, some of the shadow is brighter than the other part of it, because it’s a shadow from the sun, but the light of the lamp illuminates it, and also, the light of the lamp is fluorescent white light, whereas the sun is throwing a very yellow/gold hue on the wall.

3) Well what I think is cool subjectively about this is that it’s kind of almost like a section of the wall as it was before the sun rose, being preserved into the daytime. Ignoring the fact that the sunlight is indeed reflecting off of everything and also passing through the translucent parts of my lamp, it’s kind of like a cut section of the wall from an earlier time – cause the sunlight isn’t affecting it, but the lamp light still is, whereas all around it, the sun is bright enough to not be able to see the lamp light at all affecting the wall. So that’s cool. I guess the emotion I’d put there is like, determined, like, the lighting itself from the early morning is determined to preserve itself through the day. Until, well, I turn off my lamp, I guess.

Lighting Ob #2

  1. 2/3/2016, 3:09 pm, My dorm room
  2. Objective Description: The only light on in my room at the moment is a lamp with multiple heads
  3. Subjective Description: the light from this lamp comes off as a very warm and serene light. The normal lights in our rooms are very bright, harsh florescent lights that we try to avoid as often as possible. The lamp also has different colored shells for each light bulb which contribute to the warm and relaxed feeling of the light.

Light Observation 8

1) Feb 24, ~7:00 PM; my room

2) My lamp reflected on my wall

3) Both my lighting observations are in my room this week, but what can I say? It’s all I’ve seen since I’ve been sick. It was dark and I had turned on all of my artificial lights in my room (not the overhead lights because I, too, hate fluorescent light). I was on my bed reading when I noticed that, interestingly, my floor lamp made an interesting image of itself in a pseudo-reflection on the wall. The lamp has a gray base with five white shades. The light from bulbs was bright against the wall, and their light causes the base to cast a shadow against the wall. The colors of the light and the shadow match that of the actual object, and so mimic a reflection. I had to get out of my bed and observe the wall to see if it was actually reflective (it’s not)– it was an interesting optical illusion!

Light Observation – Max Cerci

1) 3/7/14 10:00pm Outside Netherlands

2) A Street lamp outside of the Netherlands complex.

3) The melting snow created a mirror on the sidewalk as the light from the lamp casts one lonely ray into the water. All I could think about while I looked at this light was an overwhelming sense of loneliness and sadness. The light was a subdued amber and looked tired and devoid of any energy. It almost felt as if the light had lost its sense of purpose.

Lighting Observation

1) Thursday March 3, 9pm, my friend’s room

2) Light from a fish shaped lamp in an otherwise dark room

3) Last night while watching a movie in my friends room I noticed a peculiar light behind me. It was a small orange fish-shaped lamp emitting a soft orange yellow glow. It was perched on the windowsill and its reflection was distorted slightly in the dark window. The brown metal also dully reflected the lamp. The fish created a whimsical and relaxing feeling in the room, much like you would see in a child’s bedroom. It was soothing and provided a sense of security.

Beja Light Observation:

Date, Time, Location: Wednesday February 16th , 2011; 10:30PMish, at my high school

Objective Description: all but orange tinted light posts shining through window

Subjective Description: I was walking through my high school at nigh after volunteering to build some of there set. As I pass by some of my classrooms something weird happened. All the lights in the main halls, that are on a timer, turn off. It was creepy. Then as I look into an old photo class it appears if the sun was still setting. This was not indeed the case but instead was a orange tinted street lamp shining in through the windows. It started to give the room life again with a evening persona.

Light Observation 1 (Week 3)

1) Monday night around midnight, my room

2) A desk lamp illuminating our dorm room, reflecting off the wall

3) A few minutes before going to sleep, my roommate turned on his the lamp on his desk which he seldom uses. It was pointed downward limiting the light it emitted. It created a very soft, warm, yellowish light in the front corner of the room. The rest of the room was dark and shadowy due to the limited light. The lamp light reminded me of the type of light cast by a solitary candle in a dark room. It only provided light close to the source but quickly faded. The casing of the lamp has slits in it, possibly to limit how hot it got, but the light streamed onto the wall through these slits creating an interesting sharp pattern of light and shadow on the wall. It creating a feeling of comfort and peace, and creating a soothing atmosphere before I fell asleep.

Light Observation 1- Week 2

1) 2/9/11 at 4pm My room

2)Objective: Black 60 watt lamp

3)Subjective: I walked into my room and turned on my lamp and the shadow that the light cast on my birthday banner made it look like it was burning but it wasn’t. The banner is red so it had like a volcanoe lava feel. It was fascinating.

Lighting Observation 2

1. February 2nd. 6:30 AM. My room.

2. The light is coming from a bright bulb directed right at my face. It is bright, white, and all encompassing.

3. Waking up to my roommate switching on his bed lamp, which, at the moment, is aimed directly at my face is jarring. Snapped out of sleep, my head pounds immediately as I stare at the bright, unexplainable light. Clarity returns at the same pace my vision does. As I can figure out my location visually, the rest falls into place. My roommate aims the light away from me, and I fall back asleep.
