Lighting Observation 1 (Week 5)

1) Wednesday March 2, 5PM, past Dutch Treats walking to Nassau Suffolk

2) Bright sunlight coming between the clouds hitting a bush.

3) As I was walking back to my dorm, I passed on my right a bush covered with tiny yellow flowers that had just bloomed. The late afternoon sun was creating shadows on most of the bush, but some sections lit up with color reflecting the bright sun. The flower’s were so bright and so vivid compared to the brown/grey of the bush.  The bush’s branches were still mostly bare except for the flowers and the thin branches were exposed. The sun passing through the many branches created long, thin, vertical, shadows which criss-crossed the bush. This distinct shadows combined with the bright spots of yellow created a happy and eager feeling as one of the first signs of spring emerged.

Lighting Observation 1

1)Wednesday February 3rd, around 7PM, near Enterprise Hall

2)Looking at a lamppost with a white bulb about 4feet away through the branches of a bush with  water droplets hanging from the branches. The light is reflected in each of the droplets

3) As the white light from the lamppost passed through the bush, it was reflected in the hundreds of water droplets hanging from each of the branches, creating a scene that was like a starry sky. A slight wind stirred the bush making some drops fall and others shiver making the “stars” twinkle. Most of the lamps on campus are yellow lights but this one was white creating a purifying feeling. Not only was the light reflecting off the droplets, it was also filtering through the branches themselves adding a somewhat mysterious element, yet not ominous. The whole scene was soothing and reflective (literally and figuratively)
