Light Observation 9

Date.Time.Location- 4/11/19. 8:35 PM. Outside of my friends house in the Bronx

Objective Description- Thursday night I drove to my friend’s house back home in the Bronx to prepare to head out in his car to Concordia college where we both occasionally work. I stepped out of my car and stood outside, the sky above was cloudy, not a single star could shine through the clouds. On the corner of the block, a lone street lamp illuminated the area.

Subjective Description- My daily routine going from a 5:00 AM gym workout to classes throughout the day to my work at my church and then to Concordia college usually leaves me feeling absolutely drained at the end of the day, and this night was no different. I did however manage to take some time to reflect on the day as I gazed upon this ever bright street lamp. There are no other street lamps in sight on this block except for this one at the corner and it gave the illusion that mostly all of the light in the area was emanating from this lamp. In the midst of a dreary and gloomy night where not even the stars seemed to be out, this lamp shined forth to light the way. The light radiating from the lamp allowed me to reflect on the day and all of its trials and tribulations, this lamp was a reflection of me. Despite all of the long hours in the day from the gym to the classroom to the church to the college, there was still something burning inside of me that carried me throughout the last portion of the day and then back home again. This lone light filled me with the warmth and drive that I needed to make it through this final stretch, it filled me with the determination and energy that I needed to keep my head up and keep moving straight ahead. This light served as a reminder that dark days will come when the light seems to be nowhere in sight and it may seem as if its alright to just lay down and forget about life, but when there is still so much work to be done, it would be foolish to give up. Its moments such as these that do an amazing job at serving to remind me that when I set out at the start of the day with a certain list of tasks and objectives, the only viable option is to follow that lone light out ahead of me and see each of those tasks through from start to finish!
