Photo Observation 3

A photo of the shore, taken by me in January 2017
THEME: Cold
This photo was taken at night, so the light was fading out for the day. However, there was still enough light present to help illuminate the water and mist, but not enough to really give it a sharp or clear light source. Everything has a blue tone to it, as a result of the light that is present, which might not seem overtly obvious at first, but once you look closer, you’ll realize. Looking at how empty the beach is, really helps to emulate one of the words I most associate with cold: barren, because you often won’t see any life around when it gets too cold.

Photo Observation 3

I took this photo on my iPhone 7 on 2/14/19 at Concordia College in Bronxville

Theme: Cold

Description: This photo was taken at Concordia college as the time was nearing 11:00 PM. After the recent snowfall, much of what remained ended up turning into ice which made walking across this quad quite the interesting (and comical) task. What is intriguing about this photo is that the sense of “cold” comes less from the presence of the ice (although it certainly helped) and more from the white light emanating from the side of the building. This light reflects off the ice and makes it more prominent as the viewers eyes are drawn straight down the field. This entire display can almost give one the impression that they are walking down this path towards the white light. This light does not offer warmth, but rather it offers quite a chill as it makes the ice in the center resemble a small body of water that is pulling me in. Walking down this path, seeing the white light reflecting off of the ice, the dismal feeling in the air as well as the ever present foreboding nature of this white light overseeing it all filled me with a sense of urgency. This display brought to mind no other thought other than I wanted to get out of this cold air and into the warmth of the building before me. Perhaps this was the purpose of that white light all along.

Photo Observation #3

2: Hue’s creating a cold feeling

3: The Sharpy lights we programed to be a dark and yet vibrant blue during this point in the concert. This was for The Score, a show that I assisted in lighting designed. We had spent a week programing the songs with lighting cues to give different kinds of emotion. With the under lighting his face I got the refection of snow on a cold day. I had gone up during this specific number to take a pictures of how elaborate my partner and I had programed it. This was such a wonderful experience for me and it was quite enjoyable.

Photo Observation #3

  1. This photo was taken on my Galaxy S8 by me.
  2. Theme: Cold
  3. My attention was called to the window when a cold breeze came through. I couldn’t help but notice how barren the trees looked outside. The grey clouds above let minimal light shine through. I couldn’t help but to think of the snow that may soon arrive. As I walked out of Emily Lowe Hall I was once again greeted by the crisp cold breeze.

Photo Observation 3

From my camera, taken in my room.

Theme: Cold

The chilling blue lighting I placed in the corner of my room portrayed the snowman candle holder as equally chilling due to decrepit wall background. The light also worked in harmony with its frozen, deadpan eyes.

Photo Observation #3

A screenshot from Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 3 Episode 2: The Slippery Slope Part 2

Theme: Cold

Description: Although the background of this image is the coldness on the top of the mountain, the grey that is used adds to the idea of cold. Normally during the winter, the sky has a grey coloring to it. The scene from this Netlix Original TV show takes the same ideas from the real world and puts them to your phone or computer screen. This fits the theme because of the grey and blue lighting found in the scene.

Cold

Attribute: I took this picture during the snow day.

Theme: Cold

Description: All I told my suitemate was that I needed a picture with fun lighting for a blog post, not the theme. Then, I asked my suitemate to put on her LED lights and I decided on a really deep blue as the only lighting in the room from the options she can adjust with an app on her phone. I told her to “look at the door and think of NAME” (her ex), and I immediately took the picture before she broke the face and giggled. That is a real reaction and I think it’s quite cold.

6 Trees Without Anyone

  1. Location: In front of Lowe Hall, April 11, 2017 at 12:30.
  2. Objective: In front of the hall there are six rows of trees within a square grass lawn. Shadows are shifting towards Hauser Hall like spikes piercing through the grass. There is no people or animal on there during this cold, sunny day.
  3. Subjective: This image is isolating since this usual social place has no one in there. This reminds about how, despite it being sunny, the cold weather can force us all inside. It makes me think that, despite what want to do, the weather still has some control over our choices.

Light Observation 3

  1. Wednesday, February 15th; 5:00 PM; Precision Urgent Care, Mineola
  2. Bright white fluorescent lighting
  3. I was sitting in the doctor’s office at urgent care, waiting for the doctor to come in and examine my jaw. The light made me feel very anxious, like I was somewhere far away from the warmth of home. It was warm in the office, but the light made it feel colder. I was filled with the desire to leave and go home, but the light made me feel like there was no escape. I closed my eyes and took deep breaths to calm down and get away from the harshness of the light for a while.
