Light Observation 12 B

1.) 5 pm 4/15/11 Trinity Church

2.) Sun breaking through clouds on the side of Trinity Church

3.) Coming out of the subway station on Wall Street I always notice how exquisitely beautiful the garden/grass area of Trinity church is, especially lately as it’s been raining so much. On this day it was especially gray, growse and cloudy but I noticed a small  ray of golden sun shining down on the side of the church. In contrast to the grey light all around from the clouds and nasty weather, it was especially beautiful! It was holy, angelic, pure beauty to behold.

Large Photo Observation

I think this is just a site that has nice space wallpapers. High performance photo gallery.

3) Large Photo

4) This photo appears to be from a rover of some sort-on mars or the moon or something, I’m not sure. For one, the shadow makes the rover look huge, I think it looks like the shadow of a massive robot on the landscape. Then the strange way the light strikes the mountain range in the back makes you unsure how big they are. The perspective and odd shadows of the photo could be shifting them to look massive when in reality they could be small. The whole photo appears to have a strange distorted size feature about it.

Opposite to large is this cool photo style, called tilt shift

Light Observation 12 ish A

1.) 11pm ish 4/28/11 BQE near Brooklyn Bridge

2.) Car taillights in front of me while I was driving

3.) DRiving home from Brooklyn tonight I was crawling through road construction and found myself behind a car with angry/ evil taillights! It was hilarious as the shape of the lights dipped down to look like someone with furrowed/angry eyebrows! And then every time they would brake, the lights flashed up a bright glowing red, like a demon’s eyes out to get me in the night! It was really funny, and kinda creepy… Especially funny since the other person in the car thought they looked like a happy face!

Light Observation 12B

DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 4/25/11; 5:50PM; Liberty/Republic parking lot

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: daylight through fog

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light appeared to be a dim grayish white through the fog.  The fog created a depressing feeling because it diminished the normally warmer color of the light to a dreary grey color.  The fog engulfed the towers and created a different (slightly brighter) color on the lower portion of the towers.  It was as though the day light had a “frost filter” in it.

Light Observation 12A

DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 4/27/11; 7:55PM; North side of Lowe Hall

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: light in stairwell from ground

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The bright amber light from the stairwell to the basement of Lowe Hall created a mysterious feeling.  The rest of the light around the area was bluish white because it was around dusk, but the stairway glowed with intense amber.  It felt as though there was a “hidden secret” down there.

Photo Observation 12

ATTRIBUTION: http://www.edwud.com/2010/01/29/basket-ball-at-madison-square-gardens/

THEME: Large

DESCRIPTION: Madison Square Garden feels gigantic with the amount of lights in the arena.  The feeling is amplified because of the lights that reflect back onto the ceiling and the lights that are focused on the seats.  The glossy floor of the court also creates a large amount of light as well.

Lighting Observation 2 (Week 12)

1) Thursday night, 10pm, walking from Dempster back to my dorm

2) Lights reflecting off clouds and night sky

3)  The sky had a deep ominous purple color this evening as I was walking back to my dorm. The mist and fog were reflecting some far off lights but the sky remained a thick opaque purple. It was like a halloween night you might see in a movie. Scary and dark, with a hint of mystery. The clouds were soft gray and blended smoothly against the sky and were moving lazily. The sky and dark colors seemed sluggish and crept along.

Lighting Observation 1 (Week 12)

1) Saturday night at like 8:30 @ church

2) Candlelight

3) I was attending the Easter Vigil this past Saturday. There’s a portion of the mass where all the members hold candles. All the rest of the lights in the church were out and the sparse candles were the only sources. They were a swarm of specks casting a sea of swaying shadows (alliteration is awesome). They created a feeling of inner peace and also of bonding with the small community of candles collected in the congregation. It was a soothing and emotional scene.
