Light Observation #9

1. March 28th – 7:15PM – train ride between Penn and Mineola Stations

2. The very last few minutes of the sunset

3. We had spent a long day in the city, and started to head back to Hofstra at 7. After only a stop or two, I began to realize the magnificent sunset occurring right outside my window on the train. The sky was a brilliant shade of pink along the horizon, slowly fading into a grey-blue. The sun hung low in the sky, the brightest orange I’ve ever seen. Streaked across the sky were clouds, all of which were light purple-grey in color. The moment captured my attention and kept me entranced until the sun sunk low beneath the horizon and the stars began to come out. It reminded me so much of summer back home, with beautiful, brilliant sunsets in colors that you can never seem to name or recreate. It’s like sitting by the pool in the evening, with a fire lit and the night moths flying past our faces. The only thing missing in the moment was the smell of too much bug spray and an excess of laughter.

3) Intrigue

4) This photo perfectly represents intrigue. The juxtaposition of the natural forest to the electrical lamps creates a sense of wonder and mystery. The moment you see this picture your brain starts asking a million questions. Why are there lamps in the forest? Where are they leading? Who put them there? What are they plugged into? Is it magic? The photo is actually taken at dusk, but with the coverage of the trees, it seems really dark, so the warm incandescent light coming from the lamps jump off the page and invite you in. You want to follow the trail of bright beautiful lamps to wherever it leads.

Photo Observation #9 – Lee Moore – Intrigue

3. The word “Intrigue” brings to mind the 1940’s. Film Noir, Smoky bars, and the deep voiceover as the pretty lady in red enters the detectives office. This photo seems like almost a modern film noir, all sepia tones with a cigarette glow front and center. The shadows around her eyes, and covering most of her face make you wonder what exactly is haunting her mind. The glow behind her beckons to worlds beyond her darkened form, making the viewer question what stands between her and them.
