Photo Observation #7

Location: Movie Techniques

Theme: Scary

A man is standing above a light. The way that the light only hits certain features of his face creates a scary mood. It’s also the combination of the rest of his face that isn’t lit up to be in the black darkness that leaves you with an uneasy feeling. The complete darkness of his eyeballs makes him feel extremely distant and not relatable. I found this interesting because if the lights were all on, he would look like a normal man. But the way the angle projects the light from under this man’s face almost transforms him into a non human form. He looks as if he is wearing the Jason mask, but what’s interesting is that he isn’t wearing a mask at all.

Lighting Observation #7

  1. March 14, 2018 – 9:12am – Stage Lighting Classroom
  2. I am sitting at my desk in class. As I am looking at the white board, a shadow is casted upon it. The shadow is grey and projects the outlines of the window bars as well as the trees further in the distance. The tree’s shadow is moving on the board.
  3. All of a sudden, the board came to life. The silhouette from the window is casted upon the board as well as the tree branches behind the window. As the wind swayed the tree outside, its branches began to move around the white board. It created a moment of beauty and tranquillity because as stressful as school may be and how far classrooms have moved from nature, we can never forget that it will always be there.

Lighting Observation 6

  1. 3/9 5:12am my room
  2. A small incandescent light shines on the ceiling, filling the room with a dim, but still usable light.
  3. Although still dark, this light provides a cozy, comforting atmosphere to the room compared to the bright fluorescents.

  2. Happy

4.The lighting in the photo said “happy” to be because of its variation and warmth.  With the beautiful sunset behind them, the warmth of not only the sunset but also the light on them provides joy and warmth.

Light Observation #6

1) March 7th-7:40 pm-Netherlands Unispan

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: There were two rows of lights across the bridge so one could see when crossing it at night. The lights were not all the same color tone however. Some were amber and some were a cool white. Also, the different color of the lights were not in any particular pattern.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: In this moment, the lighting made me literally groan. I was so annoyed that the colors of the lights did not match to each other. Also, because of how the lights where spaced, there was just a circle with no light in between each light for the entire bridge walkway. Therefore, there ended up being big dots of non-patterned colors of lights across the nether-span. This created a very irritating feeling because of how the lights did not match and were not even in a pattern.

Photo Observation #6

2) I took the photo near the beginning of Fall semester 2017

3) THEME: Happy

4) DESCRIPTION: How the rainbow light faintly lays over my hand gives off a soft sort of feeling. This photo gives off a happy feeling because of the color tone the lighting causes the photo to be. How the hand has a relationship with the light rather than the light just being apart of the picture gives off this happier feeling as well. This is because of how my hand is fully involved with the light. The light lays over my hand like a blanket, which gives a comforting, positive feeling.

Theme: Happy

Description: This is an example of me making use of the theme to its fullest. In the image, a girl is looking at something or someone and uses a flashlight to highlight her face. I cannot explain as to why she’s smiling but she is clearly happy. The photo gives me a deeply unsettling feeling and nervousness, but at least the subject of the image is enjoying herself as a result of the light.

Light Observation #6

1. 3/7/2018 Outside my window at 12 PM

2. The entire parking lot was covered in not the nice bright white snow but instead a dark blue snow that covered everything. The light from the sun trying to push through the large clouds making a dark blue light as only shadows came through.

3. The way that only the shadows and darkest of light was getting through made the room feel very warm and nice. so how it made me feel to be outside of the odd light . Not the actual light itself, which was more cold and not fun to run through.

3. Theme: Happy

4. The way the warmness of this light shines on and through what it hits is what makes it happy. The warm light that saturated the pure white snow just makes me calm and happy. Also just the photo in genuinely gorgeous with how it adds a shadowed effect in the front rather than the usual shadows on the back. In a way it was what the lighting did not light, is the reason I picked this.

Photo Observation #6

This lighting makes the woods warm and inviting to enter. Reminds me of what imagine the woods in Mid Summers Night Dream to be like when the sun is out; blasting through the trees. The amber and orange mix make it look cozy inside as well.
