Light Observation

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: April 20th, 6:00 pm, Sands Point Preserve

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: My boyfriend and I went hiking to enjoy the beautiful weather and the nature that was presented. He had never been there but the way the lighting shinned though the trees even with the clouds.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Typically, if it’s cloudy outside many choose to stay inside. I however decided to embrace spring and all its rain.

3) THEME: Spring

4) DESCRIPTION: I always think of spring as a beginning, so having natural light that floods in from the right reminds me of spring. Ands the light itself is very soft in the way it floods into the frame.

Light Observation

Date/Time/Location: April 25th/2:00pm/Emily Lowe Hall

Objective Observation: We were having an acting class in one of the classrooms in Lowe. The class was almost over and we were waiting for the professor to announce our final project date. I was looking around and suddenly I saw there’s a beautiful shadow of the leaves of a tree outside the classroom casting on the whiteboard through the window. The leaves and the trunk of that tree were clearly seen on the whiteboard. And the shadow was moving as the tree itself moving with the wind.

Subjective Observation: It was so peaceful to see the shadow floating on the whiteboard and it also helped me with my acting scene. Because the final scene I got in that class was about a couple confessing to each other in the moonlight under a tree. The shadow I saw hopefully would help me a lot since before I had no idea where to look at in order to pretend I see the moonlight and the tree. So next time, I will have a more material object as a target to point at.

Photo Observation #spring

I took this photo in Iceland during the spring break

I went to Iceland this spring break and I took this photo on the west coast of the country. The sunlight is not too extra since it’s behind the cloud so we can perfectly see the landscape. The snow on the beach started melting already but we can still tell how it looked like during the winter, of course, it’s Iceland. When snow and ice in the coldest place on the earth start melting, we know winter is gone, and spring comes.

Theme: Spring

Location: Coney Island, New York

Description: One of my favorite places to go and hangout is Coney Island. I was there last weekend just hanging around the area and decided to walk the entire boardwalk. But I mostly wanted to be in the middle of it where all of the rides, and cool shops, and restaurants are. It is a great place to go in the spring since there is obviously a beach there, but there is just so many cool and weird things to do around there.

Light Observation 11

Date.Time.Location- 4/26/19. 6:12 AM. Upper East Side Manhattan

Objective Description- Yesterday I was hired to act in a short psychological horror film. Filming took place in the Upper East Side in Manhattan in the form of an overnight shoot outdoors. As we neared the end of filming, the sun began to rise, lighting up the sky.

Subjective Description- It is an absolutely joy to be able to work on a film in any capacity. No matter how many times I’ve done it however, I never seem to get used to the long hours. I spent most of the night and early morning outside and the night sky blanketing the city made me feel the weight of my eye lids as I struggled to stay awake in between takes. The darkness served to create the illusion of endless night, of perpetual waking dream in which it seemed as if the light would never come. This was until slight glimmers of light began to show themselves as the blackened sky began to roll over into gray as the raindrops continued to fall. The light was returning, the sun although hidden, had ascended to its peak once again. Although the sun didn’t appear immediately within my sight as it was concealed behind the clouds, the death of the darkness replaced the gloomy feeling in my chest with that of hope, of determination, and it even brought a smile to my face. We all knew how long we had been out her filming and the light not only signaled the end of a long night of filming, but it also filled us all with gratification as we heard the director yell “that’s a wrap!”. The shadows of the night had faded and now we knew it was time to truly celebrate a job well done. The night had come to an end and the escalating brightness filling the sky meant that a new day was just beginning with new chances and opportunities beckoning.

Photo Observation 8

I took this photo last year during a trip to Bear Mountain State Park.

Theme: Spring

Spring is representational of many different things to many different people. For me, spring is quite indicative of a form of resurrection, of new life being breathed into the earth. This is the time when everything that had died away during the fall and winter managed to repair itself. This photo was taken by the lake at the foot of Bear Mountain and there is something about the way in which the sunlight brushes over the greenery and glistens over the water that really brings this concept of rebirth right to the forefront. The rebirth of the green plants and flowers during the springtime is synonymous with the season and the way in which the rays of light radiating from the sun appear to lightly bathe the surrounding greenery almost creates a sense that the plants have been awakened, this is the dawning of a new time in the year, all that had died is now alive again and the dismal and empty atmosphere of the fall and winter is now undone. It almost brings to mind how a newborn baby may see the world for the very first time, everything may seem bright and full of wonder/mystery. The way in which the sunlight presented itself here also serves to convey that we have reached the point right before the summer let’s its warmth be felt. We are on the staircase to summer and we are ascending quickly but we just aren’t quite there yet. The earth has been allowed to spread its very green wings again as spring rears it’s head, and the countdown to summer has begun!

4/23 Street infront of friends home.

They pole stand up tall above the street so that it is able to have a overhead lighting. That car that is directly underneath the light is illuminated in white light. This then creates shadow on the car and also leaves the bottoms half a lot darker drawring your attention. But, it’s also bright enough that it catches the car that is behind it.

The lighting actually gives it a gloomy feel to it because the street lamps are the only source of light for the street. That lightbit bright enough that you can notice there are car parked. Due to the fact, that there is no filter in a light source you can see the actual color of the cars just with a lot of shadows.

Lighting Observation

F

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: April 24th, 11:30pm, outside the speigel theater

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sky is dark, looking at the front of the theater there are three main sources of light. Two on the walls adjacent to the sides of the front doorway. These where standard off white, florescent floodlights. The third, though of a similar style of light, was centered over the door and created a distinct amber cone if light over the door.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: campus at night is never particularly inviting, but there in something mysteriously inviting about the speigel, the way the entryway glows with warmth in the darkness of the evening.
