3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: I loved to just get outside and do something especially being all cooped up during quarantine. it was fun to drive through and see the flowers during sunset. I got some great pictures with my camera of the lighting going through some of the petals of the flowers as well as reflecting off the lake in the background.

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Light in my window accentuating my hands.
SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: I sit, doing my homework, when I take a look at my hands typing on the keyboard of my laptop. The orange light of the sun enters my window and hits my hands, filling in every crack and pore, fleshing out (no pun intended) every detail in my hands. It made me feel an appreciation in a way for many things; my eyes, my body, my consciousness.
DATE/TIME/LOCATION: 4/17/2020, 2:25pm (Arizona Time Zone) @ South Mountain in Phoenix
OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sun is moving out from behind the clouds and illuminating the mountains and all that is beyond it.
SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The mountains are such a beautiful sight and I am lucky that I live so close to some beautiful wonders. I’m not really into physical activity, but quarantine away from friends and other family members has taught me to branch out and try new things. I have a beautiful view and I got some exercise today.
1) Fall sunset in Vermont – When I think of fall, I immediately think of New England. New England by far has the prettiest fall and you can see every stage of the leaves changing and then falling. I decided to go with warmer colors to depict what would be seen outside if it wasn’t set on a stage. Orange, yellows and reds are always coupled with fall. From stage left, there is red light (25 Orange Red) and from stage right there is a yellow light that is straw shade (09 Pale Amber Gold) and in the middle where they meet there is a clear white backlight and the colors also mesh to create an orange directly in the middle. All of the light is intense in color but subtle in how much attention it demands; how much it draws the eyes.
2) Spring Sunrise in a Gothic Cathedral – I used to attend Catholic school and I remember in the morning before a mass the chorus used to walk through the church and make sure all the pews were cleaned and all the kneelers were up. I faintly remember the way the sun would peek in through the stained glass windows. The colors I would choose to light the stage would be pastels to represent the light shining through and reflecting all of the stained glass window colors into the Cathedral. Coming from stage left there is a white light (00 Clear) and from stage right there is a purple/pink-ish light (44 Middle Rose), meeting with a blue backlight in the center (55 Lilac). The colors are not intense, they are more muted.
3) Noon on a hot Summer day in Hawaii – The only thing I can think of when I think of an extremely hot weather in a notoriously warm place is SUN. So, the lighting I chose is one intense yellow light (12 Straw) coming from stage left and one dimmer pale yellow light (96 Lime) coming from stage right. I imagine that the dimmer side is some shade they’ve managed to find to shield themselves from the blazing heat. The right side is the sun beaming on them from the opposite side, leaving them not entirely shaded.

The orange hues are reminiscent of the deep sunsets you get in the fall with very little cloud coverage. The sunset is behind the character and a bit of blue backlight is the day light that makes it so we are still able to see.

Winter’s are often overcast and especially dim before snow falls. Sometimes we can only make each other out via silhouettes hence this lighting design.

I chose to go with lots of blues for this one to create a cold atmosphere within the stone gothic cathedral. Amber or white lights could have been used to highlight the Gobos to go through the stained glass but I chose to highlight the light blues to create the atmosphere.

This could have also used amber or light yellow lights but I wanted to create as much natural looking light as I possibly could, while also keeping the model clear so that it can be seen clearly by the audience and not blinded

Heavy use of blue lights, with some white lights to be utilized as the afternoon aspect of this. To give it the feeling of cold, heavy ‘icy blues’

Objective Description: The sun was setting on the opposite side of Little Sebago Lake, but on the other side of the lake it was starting to rain
Subjective Description: The rain that started to fall on the opposite side of the lake diffused the light that passed through it and made it ‘sparkle’ on the water

Whenever I think of sunsets, I think of dimmer lighting filled with warm tones. I wanted it to be soft, with lots of oranges and a nice blend of red and yellows.

The stained glass of the cathedral was something I wanted to play with. The sole light source is the rising sun (coming from the east) filtered through these windows, casting the scene in shades of pink and purple.

I wanted to show a place covered in bright snow, hence a lot of the bright lights with no direct colors except blue. It’s freezing cold, and the sun reflecting brightly off the snow is nearly blinding.

I love a snowy day with a clear blue sky. The way that the white snow reflects the bright sun is beautiful and also blinding; I tried to emulate that.
DATE/TIME/LOCATION: 4/16/2020, 9:14pm, Living room in Brooklyn
OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light in the living room was turned on for a late dinner. The gray table turned a lighter shade of gray, with the rubber perimeter reflecting from the light straight above it. The objects on the table became slightly more colorful, such as oranges and apples.
SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The dull table became a little more alive once the light in the living room turned on. The objects on the table grew more in saturation with the help of the light, adding some more life to the gray table.
