Light Observation

DATE/TIME/LOCATION: 4/16/2020 5:15 pm Scott Township PA

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Light in my window accentuating my hands.

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: I sit, doing my homework, when I take a look at my hands typing on the keyboard of my laptop. The orange light of the sun enters my window and hits my hands, filling in every crack and pore, fleshing out (no pun intended) every detail in my hands. It made me feel an appreciation in a way for many things; my eyes, my body, my consciousness.

Light Lab #1

Vermont: For this lighting design I used both scrollers to create a light pink and orange light that covered my actor nicely. I also wanted to make them more 3 dimensional, so I dimmed the lights on the stage left side a tad to create that effect. I had the intensity down slightly for this one generally because I envision a sunset as a low and dim light. Overall, I think it looks much how a sunset would, especially in these condition. (That being Vermont)

The Cathedral: This one is where I decided to use the Gobo lights hanging just above the actor on either side. Just like my last design, this one is dimmer on stage left to signify which direction the sun would be to the person inside the church. I chose paler color and mixed in some light pinks and orange to make it seem like stain-glass.

Hawaii: I always envision a sort of dryness when I think of the tropics. So I chose the same color from my first design, but I also implemented a spotlight directly above the actor to give them a noon sun look. I also have them a door light to signify their shadows on their right side. I think it has a very arid feel to it, so I feel justified in my use of the dusty colors.

Winter Afternoon: Finally, the dark winter. I gave it a dark blue and lightened it up a little with a light blue on the stage right side. I gave it a light blue spot on the top of the theater. Last of all, I added a navy blue by toning down the intensity of a ELR from downstage left.

Lighting Observation:

DATE/TIME/PLACE: 4/2/2020, 7:00, On a hill behind the old people’s home

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sun begins to set over the hills

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: I needed to get outside to get some air and breath. What I ended up stumbling upon was a perfect spot to watch the sun set, and I did. The sun turned a bright orange then set into a deep red, it was quite beautiful, and made me feel that maybe this virus epidemic will be over soon.

Photo Observation

I took this photo on winter break on Centralia PA’s Graffiti Highway
Theme: Isolation
Description: I went on a trip over winter break to an abandoned highway in central PA. It was covered in graffiti and left to rot in the middle of the forest. This was a moment that made me feel very far away from society, due to the gray tones in the lighting as well.

Photo Observation

I took this photo in my home town of Mt. Lebanon PA
THEME: Spring
DESCRIPTION: the lighting here is perfect. Its low angle on the hillside where this sole flower resides presents to me a feeling of hope amidst this year’s feelings of fear and anger towards this virus dilemma. It displays many shades of purple where the light hits it differently.

Lighting Observation

DATE/TIME/LOCATION: 3/11/2020, 3:30 pm, outside Netherlands Unispan

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sunlight through the branches of a pink tree

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light underneath a tree is framed pink as I walk underneath it. It arouses feelings of the lust for the warmth of spring, and the cool afternoons shared by families in their porches.

Photo Observation

I took this photo on my eighteenth Birthday on my front porch
THEME: advertisement/desire
DESCRIPTION: On my birthday my girlfriend bought me eighteen two-liter cokes because I jokingly asked for them as a present. Be careful what you wish for.

Light Observation

1: DATE/TIME/LOCATION: 3/3/2020, 12:45, behind the Adams Playhouse

2: OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sunlight and reflections in a puddle as I walk by.

3: SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: As I stride over a deep puddle of rainwater caught on the gray cement, for a brief moment I see a crystal clear image of the bottom of my shoe, the sky, the clouds, and the sun before I step into the puddle and ruin the image. It reminded me of how fragile little moments like these are.

Photo Observation

1: This is a photo of me sporting the latest fashion of traffic cones.
2: Theme: Night Life
3: To me, the night is the time when people do things outside thier comfort zone. We feel as though no one is watching and we can do as we please. Though some may argue that the night is a time of fear, for most it is the only free time in their day.

Light Observation

1: DATE/TIME/LOCATION: Thursday February 27th 2020, 5:57 pm, Outside Hofstra Dunkin Donuts

2: OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The clouds during sunset on a windy day

3: SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Yet again I am dazzled and surprised by the sheer beauty one can see if they only look up. The pink light of the sunset on the clouds turns thier undersides blue as they move quickly across the sky by the power of the tempest. I feel a sense of serenity.
