Lighting Observation

March 10th, Charlotte Convention Center Session on Turkish Puppetry, 5:45 PM.

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Turkish puppetry is done by shining a light against a canvas and then pressing different puppets against the canvas to create shadows. The puppets are made out of specially treated translucient calf hide, and are dyed using (usually) natural dyes.

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: It is hard to belive that the intense colors created against this canvas are actually dyed on to pieces of the same thing that leather is made out of. The colors are incredibly vibrant, and the light play between shadows and sharp objects creates an atmosphere that is very whimsical, and feels traditional as well.
