Lighting Moment #4

1.  Thursday, 2/20, 12:15 PM, Portsmouth House, Colonial Square

2.  Sunlight reflecting off of snow and pavement

3.  When I stepped outside of my doom this afternoon, I was greeted by a glorious and warm sun. It bounced off the snow and buildings around me, even on bits of grass peaking out near the edges of pavement. The sun’s white light was energizing and rejuvenating, full of life and happiness. It washed away any uncertainty from my mind and filled me with hope, if only for a moment.

Lighting Observation – Max Cerci

1) 2/19/14 4:40 Walking back from the Student Center to the Netherlands.

2) The sunlights reflection off of the sidewalk.

3) As I left the student center to go back to the Netherlands, I was immediately blinded by the setting sun over the roof of the core. I couldn’t continue to look at it so I was forced to look down. It had just rained and the sunlight was reflecting off of the sidewalk like a white “red carpet” spanning from the shadow of the netherlands core, all the way to the student center. I found it very interesting that the rays of light created this one pathway along the sidewalk but no where else.

Light Observation #4

1. February 18th, 9pm

2. I was sitting in a friend’s room when she turned the fluorescent lights off to show me the new blue hanging lights she put up on the walls of her room.

3. At first I was a little hesitant of her showing me these lights, because I thought they were going to be the blueish tint that comes off of LED lights and consequently hurts my eyes. But when she turned these on from the darkness they created a glow that made me feel like I was sitting in the most beautiful of aquariums. The lights seemed to dance along the walls, making everything serene and dreamlike.

Light Observation #3

1. Tuesday, February 11, 6:45pm, in my room.

2. I was sitting on my computer with the lights off, doing homework, and the setting sun reflected on my screen through the window.

3. I was simply typing up a paper for another class, when I noticed a strange orange reflection on the lower left part of my screen. Distracted, I really looked at it, and the deeper I seemed to stare into the color, the more I was transfixed. The natural deep orange of the pure circle of the setting sun was made to glow almost unsettlingly unnatural as it was on the screen of my computer. It was a mesmerizing spell that broke when I turned my head to look at it straight on out the window. Even though it was more peaceful outside, the lock it had on my mind was no longer there.

Lighting Observation #2

1. February 6th, 2014 6:13 PM, Yoga Studio-Hofstra Fitness Center

2. OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light of a single bulb in an ornamented lamp against the background of a darkened room.

3. SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: In the already darkened Yoga Studio, there stood a single lamp, decorated with white paper and ornamented iron. The light from the bulb struggled to stretch past the thick walls of the paper, resulting in a faint light exuding from all sides. Against the back wall, the ornamented iron created a shadow on the faint light exuding from the light. In the dim light of the studio, the single bulb created a warm feeling, like a beacon reaching out of the darkness that surrounded us all.

Light Observation #2 – Max Cerci

1) February 6, 2014 around 9:35

2) The light from the window of Brower in contrast to the light in the classroom when the blinds were opened.

3) It was early in the morning for me and I felt very dreary and out of it. When my Italian professor walked in she started talking about how much she hated the lights and preferred natural lighting. When she Opened the blinds it was as if a completely new shade had been washed over the room. It made me think of when you take off a pair of sunglasses and realize the actual shade and lighting of the room. Once the curtains were opened my mood instantly changed.

Light Observation #2

1. 5, February, 2013: 7.36am

2. I was woken up by the sunrise streaming through my blinds. The colors were pink, yellow, and blue.

3. I felt like I woke up in a fairytale. I had woken up because my room was chilly, but when I opened my eyes, the sun was just starting to peek its rays in through my blinds. Everything was pink and yellow, giving my room a magical and warm feeling. Then I noticed an icy hint of blue dancing along the edges of my walls from the reflection of the sunlight off of the snow. Every particle of my room seemed to illuminate with the glow of the upcoming sun.

Light Observation 1

1. 29 January, 4:30pm

2. I was walking back from classes with my friend, and as we were walking across the unispan, she said something and I looked at her at the right moment. Because of the setting sun, there was an angle of light that hit her eyes and across the rest of her face.

3. The streak of light was like that of a single line peeking through the blinds. The golden orange light was ethereal in its glow. The way it sprayed across her face was harsh at first glance, but when looked at further, how the light glistened in the reflection of her eye took on a magical property. And after just two quick steps, it vanished, leaving the shadow lacking in comparison.

Light Observation #1 – Max Cerci

1) January 27, 2014 12:43: Drama Lounge of Emily Lowe

2) The electric light from the ceiling and the natural light from the sun coming through the broken and scrambled blinds of the window.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The warm rays from the sun came in like streaks of light clashing with the electric light from the overheads. The sunlight also revealed the dust particles floating around the room that otherwise go unnoticed. When the sunlight hit me, I felt a sense of warmth.

Lighting Moment

1) Friday 2/21/13  3:45

2) In my bedroom in Vanderpole. I was working on my drawing for my design class when i noticed a small oval of light on the paper despite my blinds being closed. I couldnt find the source at all.

3) I realized how stealthy light can be when it comes to finding its way through cracks in anything. even a small opening somewhere can easily be infiltrated by light. I still dont know where the light came through to make that odd shape.
