Drama 16 Stage Lighting

1. Taken August of 2019, 8:00 PM on the rocks surrounding the Montauk Lighthouse Museum.
2. THEME: Romance
3. She had never seen a lighthouse before. Being from California, anything above fifty feet on a beachfront was prone to toppling at any moment. Montauk, with all it’s tacky merchandise and trendy eateries, seemed an appropriate location. Alas, the sun was rapidly setting when time came for the main attraction. Cold wind whipped across the island tip as we crossed the parking lot under the sparse light of the receding sun. The museum itself was closed (the price for her first oyster experience), but a path circling the coast remained open. As we hopped rock to rock, I looked back to see her admiring the ocean, and the pink-gradient sky atop it. While we had missed the lighthouse, shrouded in darkness above us, we enjoyed the moment of peace at the tip of the world. It wasn’t the experience we came for, but it was the one we remembered.

Theme: Romantic/Romance

Description: I took this picture while walking through the Wynwood Walls gallery. The lighting throughout the pathway was just like this, dark and shadowy. I felt this exhibited a romantic ambiance with the silhouettes casted against the bright paintings. The location gave me an intimate feeling and the darkness of the night eluded to that. The concentration of the spotlights also gives this feeling of admiration for me, shining light on the artwork. This is what romance looks like for me through light.

4. Whenever I think of romance I think of the holidays, especially Christmas. I absolutely love the bright colors and exciting twinkle the create. The light is so genuine and vibrant it just reminds me of sheer beauty. I love the idea of laying down next to the one you love with a sea of colors surrounding you. Christmas lights create a beautiful rainbow, a pleather of hues in the room and shine like colorful stars in the sky. No matter where they are, the lighten the mood and thats why I correlate them with romance. After all, you know it is true love, when no matter where you are, the special someone walks in and fills your heart. This picture really does that for me. It takes what would normally be a cold hard wood floor and creates a vibrancy and energy like no other. It takes something simple and cold and makes it elaborate and warm without being overpowering or unnecessary. The light is as genuine as true love.

4) Romantic lighting has a subtlety to it. It is not in your face. I would go so far as to say it’s classy, in my opinion. This photo obviously has purple lighting rather than the typical red, but I think that is what I like about it. It shares the subtlety of blue with the passion of red. It is literally a combination of those two colors. This makes purple the ideal romantic lighting color. Also, how the intensity of the light fades from the bottom up helps show that a limited area is lit, and this helps provide the idea of intimacy which is so important to a romantic encounter.
