Theme: Advertisement/Desire

This advertisement represents McDonald’s, as the plug insert is portrayed as a french fry container for the company. However, what is the most interesting is the lighting representation for the french fries. The light source that is provided by the wall plug has the angle of the light shown shooting upwards, along with a gobo effect to show french fry shapes. This shows a creative way to show off the company’s food items without using the actual food sources.

Lighting Observation – part seven

3/28/2023 –  10:23 pm – Enterprise Hall

Objective: The lights in the window reflect the nightlife at Hofstra campus.

Subjective: The above light is off in the bedroom, and only the nightlife lights from the outside window shed some light. Given how the storm is brewing outside, only the very soft glow of the street lamps and lights in the neighboring towers shine through the window.

spring post

photo from pinterest

I like how the light from the sun is a warmer tone but the scenery surrounding still shows a cooler tone, that spring is about to come. You can tell by looking where the sun rays hit along the field and the book that the temperature is about to drop since it is later in the afternoon.

Lighting Observation – part six

03/11/2023 – 10:40 pm – off-campus housing in Hempstead

Objective: The standing and desktop lamps are turned on in my friend’s bedroom, which has a more orange tone in the lightbulbs.

Subjective: Turning off the overhead light to the lamps had a very significant effect on creating a calmer head space for every individual in the bedroom, providing a sense of security and relaxation to the mind. Between the bright white light and the soft orange bulbs, the orange glow altered the atmosphere of the gathering.

Lighting Observation – part five

03/06/2024 – 12:40 am – 9th floor, Enterprise Tower

Objective: View from the 9th-floor window of the eerie nightlife outside.

Subjective: Most of the individual lights from the neighboring tower’s windows are turned off, with only the street lamps down below lighting up the surrounding area. The rain slowly decreases and creates this haze around the street lamps, creating a more darker and eerie tone to the night life around campus.

bizarre post

photo from pinterest

The faint pink light shining through the projector adds a strange effect to the photo, including the shadows that surround the woman. What makes the photo look bizarre is the long shadow arm, starting from her wrist then stretching down to the bottom of the photo. With only one light provided in the photo, there could be countless of different stories describing of what the photo could mean.

Lighting Observation – part four

03/1/2024 – 11:48 pm – sidewalk between Bill and Alliance Towers

Objective: The street lights along the path to the Hofstra towers, with the lights in the tower windows.

Subjective: Each street light lamp illuminates the pathway, making the dark night not seem so cold and secluded. The lights in the tall towers are a distant glow, to show city life to viewers down below, so they don’t feel so alone.

night life post

photo taken in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, next to the muppet theatre

There are multiple lights lit up in the surrounding area, making the energy of the space feel alive. Usually when it is dark out, it is the brain sign to go to bed and recharge, unless you are nocturnal. But with the lights in the water fountain, the street lights, and the pizza joint, this makes the scenic view not closed out.

Lighting Observation – part three

2/22/2024 – 11:18 am – Lowe 201

Objective: The cold light through the window illuminates the classroom, competing with the light from the projector.

Subjective: The cooler tone of the outside light similarly matches the color of the projector light, illuminating the classroom and making the eyes settle quickly. Since the setting is at a cooler light, there are showings of a whiter light rather than more of a warm yellow tone from the sun.
