I chose this Takis ad because the purple light coming from behind accentuates the bag. The red and orange from the flames are bright and draws in whoever sees it. The use of cool and warm tones causes a contradiction and makes the ad more interesting. When the flames catch your eye you are then drawn into the deepness of the purple bag.

St. Patrick’s Day

Photo from Twitter of Glasnevin Cemetery

Description: This photo shows vibrant green plastered on a tower in a cemetery. This is one of many buildings/monuments across the world that gets lit up for St. Patrick’s Day. It shows unity, pride, and support in Ireland and other countries, and also allows those who have passed to participate and honors their memory.

Lighting Observation #5

3/11/2022 – 9:20am – Dorm Room

Objective – There is one small window that sits on the opposite wall as the door. The window is directly across from a closet and is between two beds that lie next to opposing walls. The window has a closed blind that is twisted slightly open, allowing sunlight only through the cracks in the blind.

Subjective – I quietly opened the door to my room and took one gentle step in before noticing the subtle sunlight shining through the small window. Cascading ribbons of light made almost a direct path to my feet as if I could walk on this yellow brick road. The only other light in the room was a single blue dot blinking sporadically on the ceiling, it belongs to the box that allows for our electronics to connect to the wifi. I took only a moment to admire the small rays of light in my room before continuing with my mundane task.

Single Artificial Light Source

From Google Images

DESCRIPTION: The only light shown in the photo is an artificial turquoise light coming from underneath the hand. Illuminating only parts of the hand because of the angle.

Lighting Observation #4

1) 03/03/2022 – 4:12 – Door Entry

2) Objective description: My front door when magnetized open leads directly to the glass door and windows that are the entryway to Hague house in Netherlands north. The sunlight shined through the windows and into my room shining on a sky blue blanket, creating an effect of a bright white spot on the blanket and everything around the blanket becoming a similar blue.

3) Subjective Description: The bright sunlight created a gleaming beam into the doorway of my room. It shined so brightly on a sky blue surface. The sunlight pierced the blanket, stripping it of all its color where contact was made. The color being stripped needed a place to go, it plastered itself in every direction. Changing the color of walls, chairs, a table, and anything else in its path. The entire room had a mellow yet bright blue shine to it.

Night Life

Kabukicho Tokyo(google images)

I chose this photo because when I think of lighting related to nightlife I think of neon lights and big cities where the city is never dark. The giant red sign right in the middle draws attention and leads down a street that is just starting the night of fun. The street behind the sign is so bright and lively compared to the street going horizontal to it. the street on either side of the sign looks dull and tired compared to the nightlife of Kabukicho district.

Lighting Observation #3

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 2/24/22 – 6:10pm – my living room

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light from my Tv as I watch youtube. The screen is the only source of light in the entire room.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The ever-changing screen changes from warm to cool and back a forth. 100’s of colors flashing within a minute, illuminating everything facing its bright glory. The vibrating colors shift the color of the boring muted blue wall and add life to such an uninspired wall. The erratic shift in light and color gives life to my glasses as if they are another mini screen to watch.

Cold

Google Images-Central park-Cold

I chose this photo from Central Park because of the lamp post. The lamppost shows warmth against all of the cool tones. This juxtaposition shows just how cold the picture truly is. Without the illuminating orange post, it doesn’t seem as cold but because the post is there, it emphasizes the difference in the lighting. White and blue and even the cool-toned brown of the bridge and trees swarm around the orange light trying to envelop it but the warms shines through the harsh cold.

Lighting Observation #2

12/17/22 – 3:15pm – Lowe 106

Objective Description: 28 evenly spaced, rectangle ceiling lights in a rehearsal room. some are brighter than others because the bulbs are newer. some have a slight yellow or orange tint while the others appear white.

Subjective Description: 28 static, pale lights with a hint of dinge. Lights meant to simply light a room, nothing more, nothing less. Lights that are inherently boring to allow those who enter to transform the room. The spiritless shine makes for a drab and uninspiring mood despite being a room where creativity is sparked, the ironic gleam of lights with no purpose other than to illuminate transformation.

Romance

From: Time Square

Theme: Romance

Description: I chose this photo because I remember my friend saying “act like you actually love each other.” This picture is the epitome of my romance. This orangish lighting shining on us brings out the warmness you feel when you are with someone special and the contrasting blue lights in the background show how we stand out and feel closer to each other than anything else.
