Light Observation

DATE/TIME/LOCATION: Elevator in the Library on 4/13/22 at 8:15pm

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The doors of the elevator closed and my friend and I were in the small creaky elevator while it went down a few floors. The only light source is the fluorescent lights overhead.

SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The elevator felt very eerie and creaky. If I wasn’t used to the short ride down to the main floor I wouldn’t have noticed how the inside of the elevator looks archaic. As we arrive on the main floor, the lobby is quiet and dim. Most people have left by now so the lobby is quite poorly lit. The artificial glow disappears behind us as the elevator doors swallow up every bit of light. Simultaneously, the hum of the fluorescent lights nearly drops to an inaudible whisper.

Light Observation 2

1)   4/7/11- 9:25 am- Elevator in Enterprise Hall

2)   The lights in the elevator seemed to flicker a little bit and they are very standard indoor lights.

3)   This lighting moment was mysterious and interesting at the same time.  Early in the morning I was on my way to class and I took the elevator.  When I got in I was alone and it could almost immediately hear elevator music in my head.  The lighting was very bright and like elevator lights should be.  This all changed when they seemed to flicker and dim a bit.  I don’t know if this was a result of me being tired or if it really happened but anyways at that moment I thought I was in the tower of terror and in some twilight zone episode and the elevator was going to suddenly drop.  The lighting provoked this feeling by being so mysterious with the constant flickering and considerable dimness that was unusual.  This was a sort of frightening lighting experience but it was one that was memorable and really created a strong feeling.
