Lighting Observation #9

  1. Sunday, April 6th 2025 at 8:42PM–bedroom of college house.
  2. Our view from inside my bedroom indicates that everything outside is pitch black, despite a few streetlights that lighten the effect. Inside, strip LED lights are on; they border the top edges where the vertical walls and ceiling meet, and have been set to a warm orange. A computer screen is out, the brightness set to its maximum while featuring the SIMS 4 video game–a background that transitions from blue to green can be seen.
  3. Pitch black nightfall is harsh and unforgiving, turning the small bedroom into a little cozy hovel for their inhabitants to survive in. The tender and inviting tangerine glow of the LED bulbs reminds them of their safety from these external forces, and nonetheless encourages them to take further refuge in their game, the SIMS 4. The brilliance of their computer screen is almost blinding in comparison to the otherwise soothing orange haze. In its sweeping blue to green ombre, the game’s background draws them closer to the reality that awaits them external to their little home–it overwhelms the senses and  questions the security they believed they always had.
