  3. Theme: Happy
  4. The light in this picture fills me with happiness and joy. It’s movement is vivid with great vibrancy and all of the colors hold a sense of brightness and strength. The light emanates many different extremes of bright shades on the spectrum and electricity gives it a new life. It looks as though the light is moving and dancing around in  great celebration. The texture of the light creates multiple layers signifying wealth in both quantity and quality. The l the way it is moving and shining so brightly gives a sense of ownership and pride. It’s as if the light is saying, “I’m here. I’ve arrived and I’m proud of who I am and I am happy to be who I am.”  The combination of colors, brightness, movement and texture created by the light evoke a feeling of happiness and excitement throughout the photo.

Lighting Ob #11

1. Wednesday April 25th 6pm NAB in the scene shop

2. Sunlight outside seen through the shop door

3. This moment caught all of us working in the shop off guard. As we are running about with lights and set pieces, I walked  into the shop to get steps and the garage door was open letting the breeze in. I just glanced at the door registering that it was open but the bright clarity made me stop. The day had been bright but the clouds were rolling in and ready to burst at any time. The reason it was so bright was because it was sun showering. The rain drops were enhancing the sunlight to become mesmerizing. It was only a sliver but that brightness in the corner was just what was needed for a busy afternoon in a dark theater. Its been seen before and its simple and not that uncommon but that’s what made it so mystifying. The view from the garage door is by no means a pretty one, it looks at Weed hall and the houses before hitting the turnpike but suddenly there was a filter between that drudgery and myself. Its always nice to find those little crystals during a long hard day and this lighting moment provided that uplift.

Photo Observation #8 – Springtime for Tanner and Jersey

Photo taken by Tanner Alvarez. Taken in Brielle, NJ April 20th 2011 at 5PM

Spring

I love my home. I really didn’t appreciate it as much until I went to college. Spring to me is a time of relaxation and reflection. The season takes a toll on me for the better. I constantly feel happy in the spring, opposite to the winter. It is a time for me to reflect all that I accomplished this year, and what I will accomplish next year. This is one of the things I miss the most. This is a view from my house, overlooking Debbie’s Creek. It has quite a macabre story. It is about a girl named Debbie who went out canoeing one day and mysteriously vanished. Her canoe was found in the middle of the creek. Besides the scary story, the view is breathtaking and it is very relaxing to sit near the creek, in the late afternoon, and just reflect upon the day. The light blue sky is such a perfect blend of white and blue. It gives off this calming feel that lets you exert your emotion right into the creek. The sky is reflecting in the beautiful water, but this does not give the water a blue color. The water is a light tint of green. There is so much shrubbery surrounding the water as well as foliage under the water that it takes this magnificent color and pushes it to the surface for all to see. The lighting effect in this picture reminds me of relaxation. I can picture this being the background of an intimate scene in a movie. A young couple kissing for the first time, an old man remembering his deceased family, or even a young boy wondering where his father has gone off to. When I look at this pool of water, I want to just sit back and reflect on my life. It has that effect. One of my favorite things to do in the Spring is to go canoeing into the middle of the creek, and read. This is my time. Time to build my mind and spirit. A time of replenishment. A time to just relax and wonder how I can improve as a person. This is my Spring. This is my Brielle, New Jersey

3. Spring

4. The beginning of spring makes outside come alive, be it ready or not, especially where I come from thus the flowers coming out of the snow. Despite the subject of this photo, spring lighting always seems so bright cause its reflecting colors that our eyes have been missing since the fall. Everything is simply brighter, almost blinding. It can be warm and inviting as the flowers reach upwards craving the life giving sun.

3) vibrant, colorful, saturated

4) Some lighting can play up the setting or subject and some can tone it down. When I hear vibrant and colorful, everything is bright. The colors are jumping off the page as you see above. This kind of supernatural view does happen only on the clearest of days when you take a minute to appreciate what is in front of you. These crisp and contrasting colors are dues to the sunlight being so strong. With so many colors, both white and black are heightened stressing each variation of color in between. The saturation also comes from the variation through each patch of different color. The sheer bright quality makes anyone who is viewing smile.

3.Shadows

4. This is a photo with a lot of ambient light that creates the right conditions for this shadow to happen. Judging by the bright light and green surrounding the shadow I would assume its spring time as things are blossoming. Many may look at this eight-legged shadow coming down on them as menacing but I think the spider fits right into the world of spring. The fuzzy outline and clearly portioned spider indicates that the source is directly above to object and probably far away. This shadow has some movement to it. It suggests that the spider is either coming or going from that spot on the leaf and this shadow is simply the impression he is leaving.

Light Observation #1- Late morning sun

1) 1/29/12 – 10:30AM – My Dorm Room (Netherlands)

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: On a clear morning the sun was shining brightly on my closed window shade and light bled into the room and lit it up, no other light source was on.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: This past weekend was not the best I have ever had. I went to bed feeling pretty blue and helpless on saturday night and didn’t really have much motivation or energy as I closed my eyes. Luckily, I slept clear through the night and did not find myself tossing and turning very much. My sleep went uninterrupted all night and into the morning until around 10:30 when the sun really started to beat down hard on the single square window just to the left of my bed. Each window inside every room in the Netherlands Complex is furnished with a cheap and hardly operable window shade that takes a good five minutes to lower each night. It is the type of shade that has two long strips of fabric running from top to botom holding onto paper-thin strips of metal that when meshed together make a somewhat solid shade to block out the light from outside.

This clear morning allowed the sun to penetrate the atmosphere with ease and hit the shade with great intensity. This is when I was finally awoken from my dreams of the past and brought back into my reality. After I opened my eyes and woke my body up a little bit I threw my glasses on and looked to see what had brought me back to my reality. I scanned the window and and saw the sunlight beaming through the window, onto the tips of each white metal strip. The concentrated light on each panel was then forced through each crack between the panels and  lit my room in a muted glow. The light on the window shade was brilliant and vibrant as it peaked through; its color a very pure white. The light in my room however had a colder feeling, and was flat and muted as it bounced off the walls. There were no shadows, just a soft glow. I laid in bed for a while staring in silence thinking about my dreams and rationalizing all the old stuff that had been bothering me for the past few days. I was in the same mood that I had been the night before while I laid there constantly reflecting back on the past few years of my life. Then I looked at the window and realized the irony that in my room, the lighting was so flat and cold yet right there at my window the light was so vibrant, intense and warming yet I had my window closed, shutting that rejuvenating and happy light out of my room. Turns out that after I opened my shade, my mood was able to improve and I got some energy and motivation back once again.

Light Observation 1 Devin Gee

1)   4/23/11- between 4 to 6 pm- Church during a wedding in Stockton

2)   The lighting coming through the stain glass windows in the church.

3)   This lighting moment was a happy one.  The bright and colorful lighting that came through the stain glass windows of the church created a happy feeling.  Along with the fact that two people were getting married and the atmosphere was already in good spirits, the lighting complimented the feeling of joy and delight.  The light was very colorful and bright; the different colored glass acted like gels and created the whole rainbow of colors.  The brightness was also important in that it made everything feel open and airy.  The association of light through a stain glass window with a wedding and happiness is now in my head and it seems almost fantastical to me like it is a kind of lighting and feeling you would see in a movie or in dreams.  Now whenever I see light shining through a stain glass window I will automatically feel joy.

Beja Photo Observation

What, Where: One of my friends old photo projects, plane window view of clouds.

Theme: Happy

Description: this picture is from a flight taken onto the clouds during the sunrise. It is interesting the amount of colors in the sky, like a rainbow, none of witch being too overwhelming. For me this picture says happiness because it makes me feel complete and fulfilled, possibly due to the complete spectrum in view.

HAPPY

This kind of photograph always makes me happy. In this instance, it has a nighttime party feel, and seems very celebratory. The patterns made by the light make it feel very present and three-dimensional in the space. The colors are also very summery and immediately make me happy. It is a very action-oriented picture, and the lighting adds to the action in a way that makes it very enticing.
