Drama 16 Stage Lighting

3. The sun had set over the lake and left a streak of bright yellows and oranges across the blue and purple sky. It was such a beautiful end to the day and i couldn’t believe how many colors were appearing and changing in front of me.

3. My friend who had recently moved to Indiana came to visit for a few days and she wanted to go to the beach after having been landlocked for so many months. The sunset was very peaceful and light. I had seen better, but this one felt very special and comforting. Light pink clouds took up half the sky and reflected on the surface of the cold water. It was freezing on the beach, but it is the only place we wanted to be.

1) This lighting moment was taken on August 5, 2016 at 8:36pm on a plane going to Louisiana.

3) Sunrise and sunsets gives me different feelings. In this picture I was on a plane and decided to capture the beautiful essence of the light. The sunset above the clouds looks different from viewing below the ground. The yellow light radiates with orange and brings me to my happy place. It makes me feel warm and calm, I feel like I’m on a tropical island relaxing and my worries disappear. The clouds reflect from the sun and bring out a light, soft, pink color. It may sound cliche but the clouds are like cotton candy because of how soft and delicate it looks from the view of the window.

Personally, when I think of both a sunrise and a sunset, I think of summertime.  The blend of the warm colors conjures up feelings of comfort and happiness; it is a very inviting and welcoming sensation seeing the sun rise or fall.  This picture radiates those same feelings for me – maybe it’s because I took the picture myself and I have a personal connection to it, but between the coloring, the way the rays were reflecting on the dashboard, and knowing our destination was Coney Island, a very summer-y place, this picture embodied everything a sunset means to me.

Cruising down the Norwalk freeway, after an exhausting yet satisfying day at the beach, the silhouette of solid mountains and swaying palm trees in the soft orange glow of the setting sun is the perfect way to end an absolutely quintessential California Summer Day. They say there is a history of truth behind every cliche…if this is my truth of the California Summer cliche, then so be it.

Theme: sunset/sunrise

Description: The dark figures in the forefront of this picture contrast the high intensity oranges and yellows.  There are no specific lines where one color changes to the next except for the silhouetted trees.  The gray/blue fades seamlessly into the red/orange and then in the yellows.  The dark clouds break up the colors and make them appear to be that much brighter and pigmented.

Theme: Sunrise/Sunset

Description: I choose this image because I feel like it accurately represents a sunset in a very straight forward way. I feel like the interesting part of this image is not the sun itself, but rather the industrial tower in the foreground. When reading books on photographing sunsets, I discovered that sometimes the best way to capture a sunset is to turn around and see how the light affects the rest of the world. Even though I do actually include the sun in this picture, I think silhouette of the tower is beautiful in itself. Like in theater, when something is lit from behind it creates this effect that is really powerful. Something like an industrial tower that people often reject and call “ugly” during the daytime, can transform into something beautiful thanks to light.

4. Nothing creates a warmer feeling quite like a beautiful sunset. The rich colors of the sun emit a dazzling mix of colors that range from burning reds, bright oranges and stunning yellows. As the sun just sets over the horizon, it sends out a beam of light casting on this fortunate man, who gets to see this wonderful display of light. The beam of light casts down leaving the back of him shrouded in darkness. Behind this man lies a dark and black light, while in front of him is a shining ball of radiance, wait to create a new horizon.

3. This photo is of a sunset. It is particularly interesting because of the cloud formations, but the lighting itself is incredible. From bright whites and yellows to deep purples, this photo contains all the warmth of the day dimming down into night. It seems to have the daylight disappearing even as you look at the photo, letting night take over.

4. As the sun rises at dawn, urban-dwellers wake up early to get where they need to be. As they are on their way, they are greeted with the soothing vibrancy of the sunrise over the city. The warm reds, oranges and yellows shine down on them, giving solace to people about to have a busy day of work. The warm colors give a comforting aura. The sky around the sun glimmers with a faint but breath-taking glow from the sun. The gleaming rays brightens the day of the weary workers.
