Photo Observation

Attribute: Google Images | Mentalfloss.com

Theme: Spring

Description: I chose this photo because of the colors as well as the angle of the photo. I wanted to choose a photo that had a different angle than just flowers straight on. This angle stood out to me because it looks like the person taking the photo was laying down in the flowers. I like the yellow flowers and how the sun shining through their petals make them less opaque. The sun is very bright and reminds me of a one-point perspective drawing in art class because you can’t tell if the sky ends where the sun is or if it keeps going. I also really like how the blue in the sky has an ombre effect as you look closer at where the sun is.

Photo Observation

  1. Title: “Sunset in the Bronx”
  2. Discovered through Imgur, uploaded by “symbiiotic” on January 3, 2017. Time unknown.
  3. Theme: Sunrise/Sunset
  4. This photo is a blend of colors towards the end of a sunset, an evening sky covered with dark blues, purples, and the tail end of light pinks and bright yellow colors. The photo was taken from a train platform high above the ground. I chose this photo because it feels close to the end of a night where things are winding down from the day and it made me feel at ease. I like the perspective from the platform, which is outside, above ground, and in between lamp posts. Even those lights hitting the concrete create this nighttime feeling, contrasting the vibrancy of the sunset occurring quite nicely. I also enjoy the smallest detail, the green signal light in the far left, which is distant but still illuminating.

3. Summer

4. When I think of summer I think of summer nights. When I think of summer nights, I think of either county fair rides or fireflies. Every summer I spend hours catching these beautiful and curious bug in mason jars and staring at their awesomeness. What’s the secret? I’ve always wondered how they create the light. It amazes me.

  2. Happy
  3. A tropical island is my happy place reasons why I choose this for the theme. I love how blue the water is and you can see its clear as you can see the sand. The blue water and green trees to me go together. Blue and green are two colors that set well. The sun shining in the middle top makes me feel warm, my favorite season is summer. I like how the sun rays is reflecting off the trees a bit making the green fade into a yellow. I admire the green, blue, and yellow because it relaxes me and reminds me of vacation and that makes me happy.

Photo Observation #4

2. This photo came from a storm chaser blog at http://www.harkphoto.com/may251997.html

3. Mysterious

4. Though the sky is dark, the land is submersed in a strange yellow glow. The green of the grass is unnaturally bright: it is screaming for help, but the storm has already taken hold of the sky, taking the sun away and filling its place with darkness. And soon it will wreak havoc on the land as well. Where does the yellow haze come from and how long will it last before everything becomes dark?

  1. Sunrise/Sunset
  1. This photo of a sunrise over Niagara Falls captures the soothing yet powerful motion of the falls. The blue green water feels and looks frigid in comparison to the intense warmth radiating from the yellow and orange sun. The light in the picture makes it seem like the perfect most peaceful place to be would be floating in the cloud of white mist where the cool water droplets enclose your body but you can still feel the powerful warm glow of the sun.

Photo Observation #4: Hot as Oranges in Florida

I found this image online. It can be found at flickr.com.

The lighting theme is hot.

Orange, red, and yellow may be cooler in terms of degrees Kelvin but they are associated with warm things like the sun and fire. The big bright hues of the sky reflect the excessive warmth of the lighting. The sky is on fire, red hot. The golden ball of gaseous matter shines like the largest gem and greatest treasure in the sky and makes the sky its hue. It is yellow and white with a hint of orange like a match flame glowing bright to light a candle. It is thus a mass producer of heat parching the landscape like how a used match is charred. It silhouettes and gives a highlight of red to the things beneath it like what a dreamer might imagine the Martian landscape to look like. This red makes the world seem hot like a laser beam has been pointed at everything. The distribution is wide engulfing the entire sky and majority of the landscape in the warm colors and causing the silhouetting to occur. The light source glows with warmth, and the lighting is as hot as a bright red pepper tastes as a consequence.

Light Observation

Time: Tuesday night, 11:50 pm

Objective Description: As I looked out my window at night, everything appeared to be black and yellow, except one room in a building across the parking lot.

Subjective Description: I was getting ready to go to bed, and had turned off the lights in my room but hadn’t yet closed the shades. In the dark, I was able to easily observe what was going outside my window. Spots of yellow lights were visible from the lamps lighting the pathways and the few cars driving by. Several of the rooms in the other towers were dark, but some still had their shades open to reveal squares of more of the same yellow light. I could easily see the landscape below, but instead of the usual colors, everything appeared to be somewhere between artificial yellow and complete darkness.

There was one exception to the monotone scene below and it caught my eye immediately. Across the parking lot, in the Bill of Rights building, someone else’s room was glowing with some kind of novelty light that cycled through the rainbow. This one tiny square of light was captivating against the plain yellow and black backdrop.

3. Sunrise/Sunset.

4. Nothing creates a warmer feeling quite like a beautiful sunset. The rich colors of the sun emit a dazzling mix of colors that range from burning reds, bright oranges and stunning yellows. As the sun just sets over the horizon, it sends out a beam of light casting on this fortunate man, who gets to see this wonderful display of light. The beam of light casts down leaving the back of him shrouded in darkness. Behind this man lies a dark and black light, while in front of him is a shining ball of radiance, wait to create a new horizon.

Lighting Observation #11

1. 4/22/14 at around 11:30 at my friend Anthony’s house.

2. Christmas lights hung around his pitch black room. One strand is colored. The other sides of his room are completely dark.

3. Recently my friend moved into a new place that has quite a few problems. One of them being that most of the light blubs were burnt out. Because of this, his room gets shrouded in darkness at night. To eliminate some of the darkness, he uses two long strands of Christmas lights. Two sides of the room is illuminated with a row of colored lights that leave small traces of color on the wall. They leave the wall lit with faint reds, bright yellows, rich greens, brilliant blues, and soft pinks. They occasionally flicker leaving a small portion of the wall in darkness. However, these dimmed lights strikingly light up half of his room very well.  These shining lights are a beauty to look at, with their faint twinkle that brighten the black of the night. We almost don’t want regular lights in his room.
