Photo Observation

  1. February 25, 2020. 11:30 PM.
  2. Theme: Night Life
  3. I’m not much of night owl. Bed by 11, wake up early to start the day.  Thus, most of my “night life” is this: coming home late from work. Not that I mind it. I find peace in a quiet day after a long day. I sat in my car selecting the perfect song for my three minute ride home, I was calmed by the uniform line made by the lamps lighting the Breslin courtyard. However, the direct naked headlights matched my annoyance in having to cross the chilled Unispan (poor planning on my part).

Photo Observation #5

THEME: Night Life

DESCRIPTION: This photo was taken November 24th, 2019 a little after 11pm at Snoh Aalegra’s concert in Webster Hall. I stood in line with my partner in the cold for four hours to be front and center for the concert, and it was extremely worth it for this view! The quality is drained from uploading it here, but the pictures I have of this concert are some of the most beautiful shots I’ve ever gotten. The lights in the concert were super appealing and added to each song she played. For this set, she was singing “I Want You Around,” which fits so well with the red lights.

Night Life

2) This is a picture of my dorm room wall

3) THEME: Night Life

4) DESCRIPTION: The light illuminates my room and gives a relaxed, calming feeling. It reminds me of the nights spent in my room laughing and having a great time with my friends. I make me feel more comfortable and calm sitting under these light rather than sitting under the Florissant lights built into the ceiling

3) Hearing a noise in the dead of night, they wander out into the backyard with a flashlight, searching for what could’ve made that rustling. Finally, the flashlight finds the source of the sound in the darkness; a tiny opossum.

Photo Observation 4

I took this photo on July 20th 2016 after returning to New York from a week long stay in New Orleans.

Theme-Night Life

Description- This photo was taken at the final stretch of what was a very exciting and very exhausting trip back from New Orleans. I believe the true sense of “Night Life” comes from how there is a certain aspect to this photo that is really energizing. The night sky when viewed from an airplane can look soothing and sleep inducing with the way the stars provide faint flickers of light in the darkness. One can certainly feel this tiring feeling when looking up at the vacant sky but then the eyes are immediately drawn to the various scattered, colorful, and vibrant lights that make up the New York City skyline. Time Square is clearly visible from up above and just this section alone can remind someone that while they sleep soundly (be it in their own bed or on a plane) the night tends to take on a life of its own. This is ever so evident here as the lights of the skyline (Time Square in particular) tend to be in constant movement creating ripples of color and sparks of life amidst the darkened sky. It is possible to feel the energy of the city as the night life is in full effect and soon the feelings of tiredness and longing for slumber are soon replaced with feelings of child-like wonder and elation. It is when we all go to sleep that the night really begins to come to life ( It is during the darkest of nights that some of the brightest lights are really allowed to shine!).

  1. Attribute: Peter Kitchs’ Instagram. Photo taken by: Pamela Horton
  2. Theme: Night Life
  3. Description: In the caption of Peter Kitchs’ Instagram post he states that he is at a silent disco. This photo jumped out at me due to the lighting. The blue light from his headphones is creating a shadow on half of his face while, the light bulb is creating a purplish color in his hands. Though his background doesn’t have much going on the lighting to me is what shows night life and fun.

Photo Observation #4 Night Life

My Photo taken with an Accidental Long Exposure on Nikon D3300

3) THEME: Night Life

4) DESCRIPTION: An accidental long exposure photo taken of a string of rainbow lights hanging over an alleyway in Salem Mass. Obviously there are all sorts of colors in the Primary focus but there is also a lot of color in the ambient lighting around this section on the walls of the alleyway.

Night Life

Attribute: This photo taken at a thermal bath in Budapest, Hungary at night.

Theme: This relates to the theme night life because the photo was taken at night in fun atmosphere most people would associate with “night life”.

Description: The heat of the bath against the frigid air created a foggy back drop for the the whimsical, ever color-changing lights to engulf the space.

3. Night Life
4. This photo shows how the movement of light works in distorting reality. I think this picture causes a feeling of confusion when attempting to follow the light an understand what is happening in the photo, but I thought it also showed a great display of life and movement in the darkness.

Photo Observation #3

Title: Late night in the park

Theme: Night Life

Description: When I think of my night life I think of my long walks with friends through parks or neighborhoods. The lighting here is beautiful to me and ideal because each streetlamp is lighting the path perfectly. The shadows aren’t ominous but more like shields protecting the lit path.
