Drama 16 Stage Lighting

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 4/14/20 around 4:45pm in my front yard in West Hempstead, NY

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sun was shining very brightly on my friend’s dog. 

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sun beat down very heavily on my sidewalk where Appa sat, bathing in the sun. He had just eaten a dandelion and the yellow petals sat on his nose. The bright spring sun had painted his fur a radiant brownish-black and glossed over his eyes and made them shine. 

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 4/7/2020 around 8:45pm in my room in West Hempstead, NY

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: All the lights in my room were off except for my fish tank light.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: After closing my blinds and shutting off my lights, I noticed that the only light in my room was that of Betta O’Rourke’s tank (my foster fish). He was swimming around gracefully as the yellowish-greenish light from above his tank lit up a corner of my room.

• Description:
  • Looking at my research of sunsets in Vermont, I was heavily inspired by golden hour, the sun in one’s face, and the long shadows that are cast around this time. I also looked at paintings by people native to Vermont and the colors that they used to depict this time of day.

• Description:
  • When I think of cathedrals, I think of high windows with lots of light streaming in, and stained glass. A lot of the cathedrals I was looking at had stained glass in various jewel tones, and I liked the purples ones the best. I envisioned someone walking into the cathedral down the aisle as the sun shone in from one side of the cathedral more brightly than the other due to the sunrise.

• Description:
  • I knew about this phenonmenon in that occurs exclusively during the summer in Hawaii called the Lahaina noon which is when the sun passes directly above certain islands. It either creates really weird shadows immediatly below an object or non at all, which creates the videogame-like effect that I tried to replicate here.

4) Winter afternoon in North Dakota

• Description:
  • Winters in North Dakota are incredibly harsh. I tried to replicate the snow moving on the ground during a windy afternoon, and the stark brightness of the sky due to the snow’s white reflection.

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 4/2/20 at around 1:30pm in my room in West Hempstead, NY

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The light from my window cast an interesting shadow on the floor. 

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sun shone in from my south-facing window, casting a sharp gobo-like shadow on the floor that fuzzed out every time clouds passed by.

2) THEME: Advertisement/Desire

3) DESCRIPTION: The soft lighting in the bright dressing room made her look and feel confident, but as soon as she wore the garment outside, the enchantment that the lighting had cast faded away. 

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 9:01am on 3/4/20 behind CV Starr

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sun was very bright and there were lots of shadows. 

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The early morning sun was high in the sky. As students were walking to class, their shadows were cast on the tan concrete, crisp and unfuzzy. The shadows drank coffee, listened to music, and ran to class.

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: Wednesday, 2/26 at around 5:30am in my room

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION:  It was still dark outside when I woke up. 

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: As I looked out of my east-facing window and rubbed my eyes, the sky was still dark. The streetlights near the Coliseum were orange and white, and seemed to mock me in my exhausted state.
