Theme: Spring

Location: Equinox mountain in Vermont. Taken by Obrian Ellis

When I think of spring I think of a perfect amount of lighting where it’s noticable but it also isn’t too much. Then you see these green plants that really give you the feeling the spring is blooming and that things are actually growing and are alive. The green in the colors is beautiful when contrasting with the blue ski as well the water is green too reflecting the color of the mountain. Particularly, they’re different shades of the color of green that makes this photo and the scenery the representation of spring while also making you mesmerized by it.

Light Observation

4.24.19 9:30 My backyard.
Subjective: There are three solar tiki torches in my backyard on a path leading to the canal. When the sun goes down all you can see in the yard are the three little flames glowing.
Objective: The flames against the dark night sky are ominous. The torches resemble those hanging on the walls of a dungeon.

Photo Observation 8

Taken by me outside Emily Lowe Hall

Theme: Spring
Description: The sun was seemed to be shining extra bright this day. The flowers were finally blooming, signs that the cold winter is over and spring has arrived. As I looked up into the trees to admire their beauty. I noticed how the sun emphasized the stunning purple pigment in the flowers. After a long winter with barren trees, this was a beautiful sight to see.

Lighting Observation 11

Date/Time/Location:4/25/19; Around 3 P.M.; Modern Drama 2 Class

Objective: During one of the student performances, all the lights in the theater were turned off with the exception of a handful of small flashlights to simulate a starry night.

Subjective: With the desired effect being starlight it definitely achieved the goal making me feel alone in the space looking at a sparce night sky.

Lighting Observation 11

Calkins Hall, one of the art rooms, at 11:11am on April 25th
I had walked into the room for my class; the blinds were down, the lights were on overheard, and the spotlights on either side of the room, the lights that we use to better illuminate the models, were turned off.
As soon as I walked into the room, I felt like something was off. It took me a few minutes, but I realized that whenever I have had class in this room throughout the semester, the spotlights would be on. These spotlights were used so that we could more easily see the model(s) that we were using on any day. However, for this class, my professor had decided that we were going to work outside, and thus had not turned on the lights. It felt odd to me, because it seemed as though the classroom was missing some of the warmth that it had previously. I didn’t feel as though I should’ve been in the room, because I felt like it wasn’t my classroom anymore.

Photo Observation 8

Taken by me, in my dad’s car, parked outside of where I had worked, May 26, 2018
THEME: Spring
When I think of spring, I think green plants and sun shining, because it’s a time when everything starts to grow again after the winter. The summer always has these heat associated with it in my mind, but the spring has this coolness to it, since we’re transitioning from the winter still. This photo gives me a sense of coolness to it, largely due to the darker leaves with a lighter background. Plus, while the upper part of the photo is a bit tinted from the glass in the car, it best represents my experience with spring; everything looks nice, but I would rather observe from the safety of my house or a car, where there are less bugs and less sunlight to burn me.

Photo Observation

Attribution: Taken by me in early April on Roosevelt Island Theme: Spring The bright sunlight on the vibrant cherry blossoms contrast nicely against the dull urban background colors. The trees and bright blue sky breathe life into the industrial landscape.

Lighting Observation

Date/Time/Location: April 14/ 2 pm / Washington Square Park, New York, New York

Objective: I was just sitting on a bench enjoying the nice afternoon, when the sun was shinning really bright and created a rainbow throughout the fountain.

Subjective: A sunbeam hit the fountain in the middle of the park at the right angle and created a rainbow that was seen by many other people that were there during the nice afternoon. The rainbow lasted for about a good 5 minutes, then went away.

Lighting Observation

Date, Time, Location: 4/25 at around 10 pm in The Netherlands North courtyard.

Objective Description: Right at the front of the courtyard there is a large tree that had started to bloom. The lamps from all around the courtyard lit the sides of the tree. The color of the lights was yellow-orange.

Subjective description: This lighting had a weird glow to it. The yellow-orange light had taken away the beauty of the tree. If the tree was shown in a different light, then the beauty of the tree would be shown.

Photo Observation

Photo Taken by me outside of Hofstra Hall

Theme: Spring

Description: The lighting in this image is bright and shows off the beauty of the flowers. There was a bright white light with the sun as a source. There is even a shadow within the leaves to show that there is depth between the different sides of nature.
