Lighting Observation

Date:4/29

Time: 11:00 am

Objective: The sky is full of clouds, but the sky isn’t dark. Despite the pouring rain and gusts of wind, the sky is as bright as it would be on a sunny day.

Subjective: This gives me a sense of warmth and comfort. Wanting to stay inside with a book and sit by a fire.

Lighting Observation

Date: 4/25/23

Time: 7:31pm

Location: Citi Field

Objective observation: It is so bright!! There are four sets of huge field lights illuminating the diamond, and the sun hasn’t quite set yet so there’s still some natural light as well. Plus the wraparound LED screens and the jumbotron are constantly changing displays, showing advertisements or information about the game.

Subjective observation: I mean, not to state the obvious, but it feels like I’m at a baseball game. These stadium lights are indisputably a baseball game. They make it feel like daytime even as night falls.

Lighting Observation

Date: 4/29/23

Time: 10:00pm

Objective: I have an LED tree in my dorm room and its so bright it lights the entire room when every other light is off.

Subjective: Somehow even the tiniest of light sources, can still be powerful enough to make the world visible. The LED flower blossoms, although small, are numerous, and can therefore work together shining in every direction to shed light on an entire world.

Wild Card

Description: New York Skyline with a sunset behind. The sky is filled with shades of blues, purples, and pinks. I chose this picture because it combines my two favorite things, New York and sunsets.

Photo taken by me in Florida over spring break

I chose this picture because I really love all of the colors you can see so clearly in the sky. The colors were so vibrant in real life and they translated beautifully on camera. We all watched the sky get more and more bright as the sun set and it is a really nice memory.

Theme: Wildcard

This semester I am working on a piece for student rep that revolves around the concept of little kids and their view of space. The very last section of my piece I want my dancers to look like they are on the moon. This photo is what I am using for for my inspiration because while it isn’t a real photo it has the really strong side lighting plus the Earth in the background which I was looking for in photos.

Wild Card

Taken by me on December 31st 2022 around 3:30PM at the Capital One Arena.

Description: Ice Hockey is the only sport I really follow. Last year on New Year’s Eve some family friends invited my parents and I to box seats for the final game of the year. While in this picture the lighting just seems like regular overhead lights, throughout the night visibility was constantly changing, energy rising and falling in the crowd. The game itself was incredibly fun to watch, and it’s an incredible experience to watch live sports from some of the best seats in the stadium.

Wild Card

Photo taken by me at February 9th, 2020.

Theme: Wild Card

I choose this photo because I like Eiffel Tower. Every time I go to Paris, I will go to see Eiffel Tower at night. It’s very beautiful when it light up. From this side, there’s no other buildings that as high as Eiffel Tower, so it’s very spectacular. And it’s so shine that feels like it’s claiming its leading role. The warm light of itself also shines sky, so sky looks yellowed. Moreover, the street light beneath Eiffel Tower reflect in the water, which makes this photo more beautiful, but at the same time, instead of attracting much attention, it set off the Eiffel Tower, so the main focus was still on Eiffel Tower.

Photo Observation

Description: I know I use a lot of concert photos for these photo observations, but I love concerts, I love concert lighting, and I have so many cool concert photos that it would be unreasonable not to use them. Anyway, this lighting inspires me. I think it’s awesome. The band is The Aces – this was their New York show at Webster Hall, and this lighting in particular was, I believe, during a song called 801, which is about growing up gay in a small town. The Aces’ first album was pretty tight-lipped about queerness, and their second album, by contrast, was unapologetically queer. This lighting represents a culmination of that growth; there’s a shamelessness to it, and also an unavoidability. If you’re at this show, you’re going to see this rainbow lighting. Also, just from a technical perspective, I like how it’s done. The lights point out and up so they’re not in anyone’s eyes, they’re spaced at fairly regular intervals, which I appreciate, and each color is such a saturated, highly representative hue for the color it’s supposed to be. I especially love the red.
