Photo Observation

ATTRIBUTION: Photo by Brian Ach on Getty Images

THEME: Romance

DESCRIPTION: The room is evenly washed with the warm glow of candlelight. The flames illuminate the wax that it sits in and gives brightness to the deep red of the wine. The reflections in the table and the window make the room feel larger and all the more rosey.

Light Observation

  1. WHEN/WHERE: February 7th, 2021; 5:13 pm; outside of Dutch Treats
  2. Facing West, the clouds have cleared just enough to finally see a bit of the sky and the sunset. The trees are covered in snow and everything is bright.
  3. Within 10 minutes, the sky went from being completely white to having patches of blue, allowing the sun to finally shine through. The world turned into a winter wonderland as the pink and orange light peeked out from behind the snow-covered trees. Everything was evenly washed with brightness-not a single shadow in sight.

Photo Observation

  1. ATTRIBUTION: Photo taken by me from my house in San Francisco; September 29, 2015
  2. THEME: Sunrise/Sunset
  3. DESCRIPTION: A sliver of the sun remains over the ocean as night swiftly approaches. Its light warms the sky by washing the clouds with a vibrant pink that reminds you of summertime. Fall is San Francisco’s summer, after all. The gradient from yellow to orange to pink to indigo gives you a gorgeous rainbow that feels complete without the “missing” colors.
