Single Light Source Photo

A Thoughtful Moment 228/365: Single Light Source Portrait

This photo is from a photo shoot that only had one light source and I picked it because I felt I could easily identify which side of his face was light and how steep the angle of the light was.

Bizarre

This lighting is in a video game and looks very bizarre to me because I cannot really find a clear source and there are many strange shadows. It is not life like and is just weird to look at.

Lighting Observation

Wednesday March 1st at 2:40 pm in the Playhouse

The series of lights surrounding the Temple of Wonder drop for State Fair.

The twinkling lights surrounding the heavy drop made it feel magical. After working for hours on the circuits and installation of the lights, taking a seat in the house and just observing the way that the lights moved made the hard work feel worth it. The way that the lights seem to chase each other in a pattern around the fly makes the scenery look alive and is pulling all focus on the bare stage.

To me, nightlife is bright, flashy colors all shining together at once. Its not organized and looks a little bit chaotic, but the atmosphere being filled with saturated colors makes it feel dream like. The dim night sky contrasting against the neon signs below it also just brings the night to life and makes you feel alive.

Lighting Observation

  1. Thursday February 23, 2023 on the corner of 46th Str and 7th Ave
  2. A bright, electronic billboard on the side of a building.
  3. The screen on the side of the building was so bright it changed the color of the sky. It felt like a beacon shining into the sky and changing the mood of the air around me. Looking at the screen face on felt like a spotlight shining directly into my eyes and blinding me. The way that it illuminated the sky was magical because the light reflected off of the clouds like a mirror above the city.

Cold

The white light mixed with a tint of blue taking over this space makes it feel cold and barren. It feels like an abandoned and mysterious place. The absence of light also plays an important part in this picture because the darkness creeping around the edges of the frame make my mind associate this with nighttime which is colder.

Lighting Moment

  1. February 17th 2023, 7:30 pm
  2. A lamp on a post in the Netherlands courtyard
  3. The white light radiating off of the lamp post made the sky around it glow faintly. It illuminated the small snowflakes raining from the sky, making the moment seem magical. The light itself was so round and bright, I could have mistaken it for the moon. The cool toned lamp made the snow falling on my face feel colder because of the mood the light gave off.

Lighting Observation

1) Thursday February 9th, 2023 – 9:00 pm – Groningen 228

2) A bright desk lamp shinning directly into my eye sitting on my friend’s desk.

3) As my friend called out my name, I turned my head to look at her, and at this exact moment, she decided to flip on her desk lamp. The white light flashed like car headlights into my eyes making me feel on edge and alert. The light momentarily blinded me and left me with spotty vision like I was wearing an eye patch on only parts of my eyes. The light felt like a pocket sized sun burning into my eyes until she turned it off after watching my reaction.

Sunset Photo

April 5, 2022 – Picture taken by me at my best friends house (Atlanta, GA)

Theme: Sunrise/ Sunset

As I was leaving my best friend Katie’s house, we both pointed out how beautiful the sunset was, which prompted me to take this picture. The orange color makes me feel very calm and relaxed because it symbolizes the end of my work and school day and the start of me being able to relax. The warm light also makes me feel nostalgic because I miss being able to drive to my best friend’s house to see her whenever I wanted to.
