4.I picked this photo to fit the theme of surreal because it is unusual and is a bizarre twist on a seemingly normal picture of jellyfish. This photo spoke to me most because it reminded me of a trip I took to the aquarium in South Carolina. When I was 14 I took a bunch of pictures of the different kinds of jellyfish and each tank was lit completely different from each other. the lighting of this particular jellyfish species reminded me of how these jellyfish were lit at the aquarium; with faint blue light that makes it seem like they’re electrified and if you touch them you’ll get shocked. What makes this photo surreal is the fact that there is a woman in a dress whose legs have turned into the tentacles of a jellyfish.

  3. This picture caught my attention because it is surreal to me that a women would be using a dog as perfume. Also the size of the dog also seems to be unusually small. I like how it looks like the spray coming out from the dog is a light source hitting her cheek. There is also light hitting her neck, shoulder, and knuckles but to me there seems to be an emphasis on her chin.

  3. I chose this photo because I think it really demonstrates surrealism. Things that contradict the conscious mind. Its the connection between dream like and conscious. To me this photo perfectly demonstrates that. I also enjoy the colors used in the photo because its such a contrast between this guy with his body open and the landscape behind him.

Surreal

  1. I found this photo on Pintrest
  2. Theme: Surreal
  3. i love this picture because it reminds me of Dali and his work with time. Time is a fickle thing and i felt that Dali embodied that in all of his work. This is a tribute to him and the dream-like images that embodies surrealist work.

4. The light source is levitating in the middle of the woods and hitting the thin trees with a warm yellow glow. It is strangely emitting light from every direction, even to the trees that stand behind it. It makes me wonder where the light came from and what it wants.

I chose this picture because it changes as you look at it. At first the egg looks huge, then the egg is just sitting on top  of the roof, and then the egg is hovering over the roof.  I also like that this is a real photo that has achieved a surreal vibe without being heavily photoshopped.

  2.  Theme: Surreal
  3.  I found this picture to be fitting for the theme because, much like the definition of the word ‘surreal’, it is a very unnatural photograph.  More importantly though, the lighting used to create the image really sold the surreal aspect of the picture; had the tree been front-lit, I think it would have produced a more serene and happy image.  However, because of the way the lighting casts shadows and darkness onto the water, and the way the tree and the boat are highlighted through the backlight, it gives a truly unique feeling that the image and situation is absurd; it gives the feeling that something is definitely off, but in a captivating and almost mesmerizing way.

3. Surreal

4. This photograph brings outside nature into one’s home. The photo makes it seem as though the two worlds seamlessly blend together. The lighting in the room is produced by a bedside lamp as well as the moon inside the bedroom. The natural and artificial light being within the same room, but lighting different landscapes created a surreal feeling of the photograph.

  3. This picture is surreal because the position of the mirror makes it seem like the girl’s body has disappeared. The lighting helps this by adding a glowing effect, making it seem as though she is something out of a dream.

I thought this image was surreal because the time lapse makes it seem like all three lights on each stop light are on at all times. In addition, the complete darkness and lack of cars adds to the eerie nature of the image.
