Drama 16 Stage Lighting

1) 3/12/14 8:53am Waiting for Lighting Class to Start in Lowe

2) The sunlight coming from the window and consequent shadows on the floor.

3) The sun, in the process of rising for the day casts a giant ray of light into the window and onto the desks as I wait for class to begin. Looking around I see how suddenly all of the desks shadows seem to take on this monster-like quality, stretching and distorting with the angle of the sunlight. A classmates foot taps and I see the shadow moving as it protrudes out of the desks shadow giving the desk an arm to fit its new monster persona.

1. Tuesday, March 11, 2014: 8 am

2. I woke up (rather late, unfortunately) and didn’t think it could be the time it was because it was rather dim outside.

3. I looked out the windows and just felt exhausted. Not because I hadn’t slept, but because the overcast heavy sky just felt sleepy. The clouds muted the world around them and everything felt heavy. It was almost unsettling, the claustrophobic feeling that came across me with this heavy, bright but not bright, dark but not dark feeling. It was strange – just not right. I kept waiting for the sun to shine through or something so that the world wouldn’t seem so shut off and desolate.

Inspiring

This photo I find particularly inspiring for many reasons. For one, I have found the concept of space and space exploration inspiring and exciting all my life. Most importantly, I think the composition of the photo is inspiring. The sun peaking out over the earth shines as a beacon of light that motivates you to be the best you can. It slowly starts to illuminate the Earth, which is like illuminating the your path, and showing that the world is yours to conquer.

1) 3/6/14 – Cherry Lane, Hicksville NY – approx. 11:00 PM

2)Street lights in a row along the road.

3) An infinite string of amber bulb after amber bulb stretched out before me. It was impossible to see anything else, beyond the feeble illumination my headlights offered. The road seemed to have no end, suggesting instead that if one were to try to reach the end of the street, his legs would be weak and battered before he made any progress.

1) 03/01/2014, Bathroom, 8:00pm ish

2) White light seen from under the water in bathtub

3) I submerged myself under the water and opened my eyes. Through the filter of water, the sickly white light from the celling looked very ghostly. It all felt very etherial and it gave me a scene of the unknown. Also reminded me of Alien movies.

3) Inspiring

4) This picture is completely inspiring, the multiple rays of yellow light peaking through the trees illuminate the dark green forest. Seems like the place where something magical and revolutionary is about to happen. This picture is very calm and filled with poetry, absolutely inspiring.

4) This picture reminds my why I am involved in theatre. The one single light illuminated the  sheet music and piano while leaving all else in blackness makes it clear that music is the sole focus of this photo. It reminds me of how I feel when I play piano or do anything in theatre: All else seems to disappear and it is the only thing that matters at the moment.

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Me noticing the harsh fluorescent bulbs in the hallway.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: I walked down the hallway, ecstatic after finally getting the email I had been waiting so long for. In my heightened sense, my vision was extremely sharp. Turning into the hallway, I looked at what was in front of me. The entire hallway was lit with harsh, dirty, fluorescent bulbs. The light cast a gross yellow light on the beige walls, giving the hallway the appearance of what one would think of as an insane asylum. For the first time, I realized just how nasty this lighting is.

1) 3/7/14 10:00pm Outside Netherlands

2) A Street lamp outside of the Netherlands complex.

3) The melting snow created a mirror on the sidewalk as the light from the lamp casts one lonely ray into the water. All I could think about while I looked at this light was an overwhelming sense of loneliness and sadness. The light was a subdued amber and looked tired and devoid of any energy. It almost felt as if the light had lost its sense of purpose.

2.  Inspiring

3.  I visited the Grand Canyon during the summer of 2010.  The pictures of it pale in comparison.  It is the most inspiring thing I have ever seen, and is literally awesome, as in awe inspiring.  When standing at the edge looking out it puts your life in perspective.  As far as the colors go it’s one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.  Seeing the different layers of rocks and sediments and the blue sky above is a wondrous sight.
