Light Observation 6

Date.Time.Location-3/13/19.12:00 AM. My bedroom.

Objective Description- I’ve recently made a purchase for a new lamp for my bedroom. Experimenting with the lamp settings one night I decided to run it on the dimmest setting. This dim lighting managed to fill my bedroom entirely in its dull and yet powerful yellow light.

Subjective Description- When the sun fully returns to its place of rest as the moon begins to spread its radiant silver light across the expansive and dismal sky, my bedroom has the potential to be enveloped in complete pitch blackness should the light switch remain off. This small lamp though its light remained dim, managed to provide a special kind of yellow tint to the room, the darkness remained but it was tinted and almost supplanted by this subtle and yet all too powerful yellow aura. This stood as a concrete reminder to me of how the darkness is never really darkened because there is always some form of light messing around in it waiting to be discovered. This yellow tint filled me with a sense of amazement and curiosity at just how much light can mesh with darkness to create these layers of dim light. The possibilities are truly endless and they are all right at my fingertips, they are mine to discover!

Lighting Observation 6

1:15 am on 3/14, in my dorm room
The light from my desk lamp was on, but the overheard room lights were off, as my roommate was asleep.
I had been laying on my bed, so the light from my lamp was partially blocked by my desk, but enough light was seeping through the cracks, as well as illuminating the wall. It gave off a glow that reminded me of sitting at home in our backroom, just lounging on one of the couches watching tv with my dad. It had a very lazy quality to it, but still gave off a good amount of light.

The lighting shown in this image is coming from what appears to be mostly to the images left and behind, which allows for the beer and the beer bottle to both have more of a sparkling appearance. The beer especially is shown to transition from a honey color into a rich caramel, thanks to the lighting effect used. The style used within this photo definitely helps to make the beer appear more appetizing and enticing, while still remaining pretty simplistic.

Theme: Advertising,

Description: I like how the person creating this advertising sign for Law and Order has a comedic side to him. Instead of having the light from the bottom of the banner lighting it from the bottom up, they decided to have a single light being held from the advertisement itself making the interrogation scene look real. I think this is really cleaver for advertising.

Lighting Observation 6

Date: 3/14/19; Time; around 7 P.M.; Driving into Queens.

Objective: The sunset from the sky was shining under the overpass as it was just about to set under the horizon.

Subjective: The warm, flaming colors were illuminating the darkness caused by the overpass. The sky’s pink/purple/blue color called to mind feelings of mysticism and wonder.

Theme: Advertising Description: The bottle is being treated like royalty as the glasses bow to it. The lighting accentuates the advertisement because the cold winter white color gives off the impression of the drink always being cold. The light also makes it a point to focus mostly on the bottle.

Lighting Observation #6

Date/Time/Location: 3-14-19 , 9:pm , Papa Johns, Hempstead Turnpike

Objective description: I was walking to pick up my pizza order from Papa Johns, when I noticed that some of the lights from the sign were out, but some were flickering, so it made the sign more presentable in my eyes.

Subjective: The missing or broken lights, caused a sort of strobe effect and made the sign pop more since it wasn’t just a stand still light projecting Papa Johns. It made me want to wonder what it said since it wasn’t easily readable due to the flickering

Lighting Observation #6

Date, Time, Location: 3/14/19, 12:40 pm, outside of ABP

Objective Description: Outside of ABP, there is a bush that is halfway in the sun and halfway in the shade. The part in the sun is a brighter green and has spots of yellow on the leaves. The half in the shade is a more natural leaf green with a more beige yellow.

Subjective Description: The bush shows the light and darkness of nature. Whenever there is some kind of natural disaster, that can be considered the dark side of nature. The lighter side can be considered to be the nature we look at on a daily basis.

Percentages found by using Virtual Light Lab

Theme: Advertisement

Description: The ketchup bottle has been sliced to show that Heinz is made with real tomatoes. Each slice has its own shadow that shows the realisticness of a tomato. This lighting fits the theme since when looking at colors, reds mainly make people feel hungry and the light on the “bottle” will make the advertisement catch people’s eyes.

Lighting Observation #5

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: Midnight, Dorm Room in VanderPoel

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The Lights where off in the dorm but the lights from the parking lot still provide plenty of light, even with the blinds closed it streams through the cracks and into the room.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: It would never be like this at home, the only light past 11pm would be the moon reflecting off the creek behind the house, here there is always light, always something sneaking in through the blind or shining into the room, I know the city never sleeps but couldn’t it at least rest?
