4-Corner Path Statue

  1. Location: March 6, 2017 at 11:15 near Spiegel Theater
  2. Objective: In the center of a crossroad is a twisted, melted onyx statue. On all 4 corner there are lamp posts that shine around the statue, but not directly onto it.
  3. Subjective: This represents the not only the directions of north, south, east and west, but also the different directions that you take in life. There is never a clear answer, as each road leads to this unformed thing at the center. While there is a grotesqueness about this unknown entity, there is also a beauty about not knowing what is going to happen.

Lighting Observation 9

Location: My dorm, like 5:30am earlier this week

Objective: I woke up way too early because my phone woke me up when my boyfriend texted me, and the light from my phone was just really bright.

Subjective: Not only was I insanely annoyed that my boyfriend was texting me literally before the sun was even up, the light on m phone was so obnoxiously bright that all I wanted to do was hit the lock button again so I could roll over and go back to sleep, but the phone blinded me temporarily when it lit up bright white light, it took all I had not to throw the stupid phone out the window.

lighting Observation

  1. Thursday April 6th, My Dorm
  2. A string of rainbow christmas lights illuminates my dorm room
  3. I woke up in the middle of the night and realized that i had left my christmas lights on. It created this beautiful multi-colored effect that lit up my whole room. The lights reflected off of every surface in my room and it was a really beautiful room.

Lighting Observation #9

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: April 6th, 7:40pm, Playhouse

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The stage is lit up with lights, as well as the house.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Lights surround everyone else, but I am in the dark, watching it all. Watching it all unfold. It is peaceful, the lights are not too bright and yet I can still see. They are dim enough to allow for peacefulness but bright enough that I know where to look. I don’t pay attention to anything surrounding me. Right now I just take a breath and breathe in the lights. Letting the peace engulf me.

light observation

  1. Thursday April 6, in the NAB during focus
  2. a ghost light nearly blinding me but in a really lovely way.
  3. I was finally on the deck level of the nab after 2 drama 5 labs on the grid. The ghost light was down center between me an where I needed to look. I was looking over the Ghost light when a light was turned on in the wing. It was like the light in the wing was pointing at the ghost light, highlighting it’s sturdy shape and the culture it represents.

Lighting Observation

  1. Thursday, April 6th, 2017; 2:45pm; Inside the Financial Aid Office Building, South Campus
  2. A dreary day juxtaposed with a brightly lit, white overcast sky.
  3. Since April brings showers, I thought it would be fitting to start April’s first lighting observation with one involving rain.  It fits perfectly with this week’s theme as well, as the light created an almost unreal landscape.  Waiting upstairs in financial aid, I happened to glance out the window to see the campus with a rather dreary disposition; the trees seemed to hang a little lower, and everything seemed to be a bit grayer.  With the rain, it painted the picture of another drab April shower.  But as I looked up, I noticed that the sky provided an interestingly stark contrast to what was down below.  Despite an overcast sky full a clouds, the sun was putting up a valiant fight to make its presence known, and it was succeeding – its bright, indistinct wash created a contrast that made me stare a few seconds longer, intrigued.

Lighting Observation 9

  1. 3/5/17, 5:50PM, Lowe 216
  2. The sunlight was coming in through the window and the color of Bree’s iced tea made the desk look pink.
  3. As the sun was beginning to set, it began streaming in through the window. Bree set her passionfruit iced tea down on the desk, the sun hit it at just the right angle and it made her white desk look pink. It was a nice moment and a break from the stress of the day.

Light Observation

  1. 3/30/17, 10:30 pm, Unispan
  2.  Cars are passing underneath the unispan with their headlights on. It is raining and the light is shining on the raindrops.
  3. As I walk up the Unispan on my way home, I realize that it had rained while I was in rehearsal. The raindrops had clung onto the glass of the unispan, slowly making their way down to the bottom of the glass windows. The light coming from cars passing underneath illuminates the darkness outside of the unispan. This same light is caught for a moment on each raindrop, causing a faint sparkle, but vanishes quickly along with its source. It reminds me of how I used to fall asleep back home by listening to the sound of passing cars and watching as the light passes through my window. This simple scene creates a sense of familiarity and comfort.

Lighting Observation

  1. An Alley between W. 53rd st and W. 52nd St.
  2. The string lights in trees cast beautiful shadows over a crowd of people.
  3. I was turning the corner into a back street hoping to make my trek downtown a little shorter and there were a bunch of trees lining the small street, filled with twinkling christmas lights and they cast some really incredible shadows over the small crowd of people walking through the night.

Lighting Observation 8

  1. 3/25/17, 10:30 PM, On the highway near the western border of New Jersey
  2. A car coming toward me on the highway had its high beams on.
  3. I was driving home from my spring break road trip when I saw a car headed toward me with its high beams on. It was blinding and made it even harder to see the road in the darkness. Being from California, most people have no use for high beams because the freeways are lighted. My roommate had to explain to me that the highways couldn’t be lighted because of the weather and how much upkeep it would require to light highways that were not in metropolitan areas. It was a learning experience, not only about how streets are lighted, but also how annoying it is when people aren’t polite and turn off their high beams when they see people coming toward them.
