Lighting Observation
- DATE/TIME/LOCATION: 2/20/2020 Netherlands Complex, 6:00 pm
- OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The sunset sky and clouds as I walk through the Netherlands courtyard towards Hague
- SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The slowly fading colors of the sky illuminate 3 clouds as they hover likes balls of cotton in the air. They are given a sideways shadow by the purple sun, making them appear surreal in nature and alien. The sky itself is a cyan-blue with tints of violet that makes me feel bittersweet.
Light Observation
1) DATE/TIME/LOCATION: Wednesday, Febuary 12th 2020, 7:45 am, Hague Hall
2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Looking outside my window at Vander Poel tower as the sun rises and the sky is dark
3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: As usual, my annoying alarm plays as I shoot awake and try to turn it off as quick as possible. I open my blinds to let in some light and see Vander poel. It is centered perfectly in the middle of my window and is turned to the right, like a giant conrete pillar. The front of this dormitorial obelisk is orange with sunlight, while the rest is veiled in purple shadow. Finally, the sky is the darkest shade of blue, the only hint of sunlight reflectsa off the the clouds in the distance.
Light Observation
DATE, TIME, LOCATION: 2/3/2020, 8:53 am, The grass and tree area outside bits and bytes.
OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The morning fog and the sunlight shining through the gaps in the tree branches
SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: As I entered the courtyard like any other day, the gently viel of fog lays upon the air like a blanket of gentle mist in the brisk morning air. The genlte yellow rays of the sun glisten through the air-suspended dew, reaching towards me through the outstreached arms of the Birch trees like the gentle caress of a loved one.
Light Observation
DATE TIME LOCATION: January 28th 2020, 3:43 pm, Stuyvesent Parking Lot
OBJECTIVE INFORMATION: I was walking back to the dormitories, but when I exited through the doors of the student center I was hit with a ray of sunshine right in my eyes and all of the cars in the parking lot were the color white. In the distance, perfectly in line with my vision towered Stuyvesent Hall, a massive shadow that evaded all light. It was nearly blinding, but the way the refelctions dotted the cars and the building loomed in the distance was truly spectacular.
SUBJECTIVE INFORMATION: On an average day in class, I never expected something extraordinary like that to happen, though when it did, I was pleasently suprised to say the least. Overall, it wasn’t an experince that made me rethink how I view light in my own world, but I was excited to find how I was already slowly starting to look for moments where lighting distracted me for a moment from my life.
