Lighting Observation #6

Location: Brooklyn NY 11pm

Observation: There was a single light source in the corner of the house. It was old and hung over but it still illuminated where it was. It also drew your focus to the trains that were passing by outside. The lights inside of the train were very dull and had a tint of yellow to it which made you really focus on it passing by creating such a beautiful scenery.

The lights were very ominous and lonely. It was mostly darkness but because the white light was in the corner there was a certain calmness to it. The train passing by provided a vintage feel being that it was one of the older train. All in all, the lighting was beautiful and the scenery was even better.

Light Observation #6

  1. Mineola, 6pm on Mar 9, 2019
  2. Subjective Observation: The sky was purple due to the clouds reflecting off of the sun setting
  3. Objective Observation: I thought of the Halsey song called Colors. I loved the feeling and just sat in my car for 30 minutes just observing the sky and was watching the colors change

Lighting Observation

  1. Adams Playhouse at Hofstra, 10pm on Mar 9, 2019
  2. Subjective Observation: I was watching the Shakespeare play Richard III and the lighting changed in the scene of ghost cursing Richard to die in his dream. The whole stage lit by previous bright yellow light was turned to half dark and half bright with cool cyan color light aiming at the stage area where Richard was.
  3. Objective Observation: it’s the scene where Richard sees all of the ghost he murders show up at once in his dream. Cool cyan light color creates an immersive atmosphere of evilness and wickedness. In highly constrat to the color which lit Henry who is on the side of victory. Audience members had been informed about the following sequence by the lighting contrast.

The lighting in this billboard in my opinion is very unique only because the use of he light really helps with what this billboard is trying to advertise. The single fact that it is talking about taste the lighter side of dark the single white light from the left brings the lighter side to this advertisement. The figure begins to get darker but the where the light source is is very light causing an ombré affect with the image of the man.

1.I took this photo last Friday in upper west Manhattan.

2. I was visiting one of my friends in the city and once I left the subway station, I saw this scene right away. Because it’s so bright compared to its surrounding subjects. The first thing I saw was a highly consttasting shadow of a woman working out next to the window inside the studio. And the next thing I saw was the adverstisment board then I knew that’s a yoga studio. That’s so smart that it uses its own customer with Zero budget to do a free advertisement. Hey

Lighting Observation #6

1)DATE-TIME-LOCATION: 3/14 7:30 AM, Dorm Room

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The window in my room faces east so when the sun starts to rise the light fades in slowly until it washes over the whole sky and it finally looks like daylight.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: I didn’t sleep at all that night, I watched the sun set, and now I was watching it rise. It was a reminder of how exhausted I was, the world had taken a break and I was still going. At least it was a gentle light, slowly warming the earth until it awoke.

Photo Observation 6

This is a photo of the Orchard street store “I Need More”. Photo taken from Boweryboogie.com

Theme-Advertisement

Description- This is a picture of perhaps one of my very favorite places in all of New York. This is the storefront for the punk rock boutique “I Need More”, owned by Jimmy Webb (a great friend of mine) and named after the Iggy Pop song. I believe that this photo fits the theme of advertisement exceptionally well as whenever I think of basic advertising , I think of something that manages to capture the viewers attention and fill them with the curiosity necessary to make them pursue whatever it is thats being advertised. I believe that neon lights do a tremendous job of drawing ones attention and, as pictured here, the bright pink neon lights in the storefront when seen from afar (or at night especially) really have a way of catching the eye and making one want to see what lies beyond the gated windows and the leopard print walls. Advertisement is all about capturing and controlling someones attention, and “I Need More” certainly does this.
