Lighting Observation 11

  2. Lamp in the corner of my bedroom shining against curtains

  3. This light is a very simple one. Earlier this semester I wrote about the fading Christmas lights of my room and how each little bulb slowly dying told a similar story to my stay in this room as I move towards graduation. Now here we are much closer to my graduation, and all lights but 2 have gone out on the Christmas bulbs. This leaves me using a lamp in the corner of my as my main source instead. I’ve always had the lamp, it was the first light I bought for this room but it’s very bright so I typically opted for the softer option. But now, interestingly enough, as lighting options dwindle just like my stay in this house, I am left with no choice. This bright white light shines from beneath its lampshade with defiance, despite its tucked away location and thick cloth shield, it will not be quieted. Also interestingly, the light bounces off the beige curtain it sits closely next to. This creates an even whiter tone of the light shooting into the room. I haven’t gotten to observe much about how lights can almost change colors depending on the surface they are bouncing off, and it’s interesting that the blanketing whiteness of this light is only heightened by its much too close surroundings. As the lifespan of my cozy, huge college room fades, the light within it only gets brighter and brighter. Until eventually the light will turn off once and for all. Darkness will arrive, but only a new tenant comes in and turns their light on for the first time. I wonder what they will choose.
