Lighting Observation

  1. 3/16/17, 7:24 AM, boyfriend’s bedroom
  2. The blinds were shut on the window directly in front of his bed, facing the street. The sunrise still came through. It made the window and the walls glow light yellow.
  3. I woke up two hours before I wanted to and the room was growing brighter as the minutes passed. I looked across the room to one of the three windows. The one behind me and the one to my left did not have much light shining through, but the window directly across was glowing yellow. The walls surrounding it appeared to be shining, and the horizontal blinds made stripes. The sun was rising in the east and flooding the room. I was a little angry at myself for waking up so early, but seeing this light made up for it. It felt very peaceful and calming and I was able to fall back asleep.

Single subject, single light source

2. taken by me 3/10/17, 5:34 PM

3. Single subject, single light source

4. The sunlight came through my dorm window and directly onto my face, making my eyes light up and my face glow. I took a lot of pictures of myself sitting in these warm rays. Eventually I pulled the shades down so the sun wouldn’t be in my eyes.

Lighting Observation 7

  1. America’s Center Convention Complex, St. Louis, MO; 3/8/17; 8:15 PM
  2. At the USITT Conference last week, the floor show had tons of lights, mostly red and blue, shining on the ceiling with many different gobos in them, most notably one that looked like scribbles.
  3. As I was looking around the thousands of people in the crowd, I looked up and saw a blue light in a squiggly line. It was by far the most interesting and unique gobo I had ever seen and It made me feel really excited for the conference as I was sure I was about to learn about tons of brand new theatrical technology. I managed to remember to take out my phone and write down what I was seeing so I could make it a lighting observation later.

Photo Observation 7

  1. I took this picture of my dog in December.
  2. Theme: Single subject single light source
  3. This was taken right after we brought our new puppy home for the first time. The sun had just gone down and in our excitement we only turned on the one light above our TV. He was so wiped out that he fell asleep right after we fed him and I took this picture.

Theme: happy

Observation: This photo is comprised of cool colors and a mostly uniform color pallet. There is a gradient of green surrounding the figure. I chose this photo because to me happiness is relaxing and comfortable.

Lighting Observation #6

  1. Student Center back dining room, 3/9/17 in the evening
  2. I was eating lunch with a bunch of my friends and there was a strip of sunlight on my friend’s face.
  3. After having a really rough day on Thursday, this one ray of sunlight on my friend seemed like the light at the end of a tunnel. It was really relaxing and overall just made me feel a lot better about the type of day I was having.

Lighting Observation

  1. March 10, 2017, My dorm
  2. I woke up early on Friday to the bright white light of snow invading my room. The light reflecting off the snow was so bright and woke me up out of a dead sleep. It almost seemed a little magical as the snow was flurrying outside and created small shadows in the room.
  3. I woke up to an almost mystical white light bouncing off the walls of my room. Confused, i looked out the window to see a small snow storm invading the outside world. The smallsnow

Photo Observation 6

  1. Pinterest
  2. Happy!
  3. Whenever i think of happy i always think of people being with the ones they love, and what picture expresses this happiness more than the famous photo of the sailor kissing the nurse on V-J Day. Seeing the excitement in the air and all of the people coming together to celebrate is what happiness means to me.

Lighting Observation #6

1) DATE-TIME-LOCATION: March 6th, 11am, Breslin

2) OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: The room is lit up by the fluorescents, except for one corner of the classroom where the lights are out.

3) SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION: Brightness. Painful brightness from the glow of the fluorescents. They’re like a needle for the eye with the pain they cause. But there is one glimmer of peace. The corner, the lights no longer shine. I take comfort in looking at that corner. It is a sight for sore eyes. I concentrate on the darkness and try to block out the shrill glow from all of the other lights. I can’t wait to return to the natural light that awaits outside.
