Lighting Observation 4

Date: 2/18/2016 Time: 8:15 p.m. Location: Backstage of Blackbox during As You Like It

Objective Description: The backstage area is black, walls to curtain. The only light shining is coming from small lights every four feet or so. The light shines like a sort of spotlight would onto a run crew member’s face.

Subjective Description: Emily, the run crew member standing under the light, is partially facing the curtain and I’m looking at her face almost in profile. The light that she is directly under creates shadows on her face that accentuate her features. Her nose looks smaller and I noticed a bump on her head due to the dark shadows. This lighting made her look like a completely different person and transformed all of her features. She also looked kind of frightening because all of the surrounding areas around her eyes were pitch black and large.

Description:

this picture depicts hot/warming light themes. The orange light that is peering through the gate gives a silhouette effect off of the people standing in front of it. When looking at this picture you can feel the warmth from the sun. The lighting effect really characterizes as hot.

Theme: Hot

Description: I was amazed when I saw this picture, and it was even more impressive when I zoomed in on it. The way the orange sunlight filters through the clouds makes it look as if the sky is on fire, and few things in the world are hotter than fire. The stark contrast of the bright sky against the dark, quiet forest almost gives you the illusion that you’re standing on a mountain observing an enormous forest fire far away – but it’s just an optical illusion, which makes it particularly cool (or should I say hot) … (sorry for the lame joke.)

Lighting Obsrvation: 2/19

Date: 2/13/16

Time: 5:45 am

Location: Constitution Hall Window

Objective Description: I woke up to a dark room, ready for a full day of travel when I noticed a little bit of pink coming from the dark sky. the sun was rising but the room was still dark and the campus was still asleep with the he street lamps still illuminated.

Subjective Description: The room still dark and drowsy remained still as the final hours of the night came to a close. Through the dark-shaded blinds, the first ray of light peased through with beams of a warm and welcoming pink followed by blues and yellows. I drew up the blinds and the dim dazed room was immediately ablaze with light, color, and life. The street lamps below still burning with fury as the natural light from thee sun’s rays bid them a job well done. A fervent sea of lights reached out to shake hands with the rainbow of colors above.

Theme: hot

Description: This photo is made of entirely of warm colors. Not only are the colors multiple blended layers of varies oranges; yellows; and reds, but they are also heavily saturated which really make the photo feel very warm. The abstract bokeh dots remind me of embers flying through the air from a fire. This photo stood out to me because it was  is not a physical object that we know to be hot, but rather the color and abstract ember-like dots make you feel the heat emitting from the photograph and associate it with the word “hot”.

Photo Observation: Hot

image

This photo was taken by the Masquerade Production of Carrie (Possibly Tim Hatcher).

Theme: Hot

Description:

A darknened border encapsulates the glowing red aura like a hot branding iron as it blares bright red, fresh from the flame. A blazing rainbow of warm hues scorching the outmost edges of the centered set send forth a rain of fiery intensity upon the fallen actors. A flame of white light illuminates the bottom downstage staircase on each edge of the stage. The red-tinted silhouettes of  life-less bodies sprawl across the floor under the suffocating power of the heat. One single survivor remains standing, about to enter into the cool abyss of black waiting behind the melting doors.

Lighting Observation 4

Date: 2/15/16

Time: 8:30pm

Location: my dorm

Objective description: I have decorative lights hanging on my wall around my bed in my dorm room. They are white lights surrounded by little clear glass beads. The beads and wire attaching them cast shadows on my wall and well as illuminate my room.

Subjective description: The light shines through the cage of wire and glass beads surrounded the lightbulb casting unique shadows across my wall. Patches of light are cut harshly where the wires make shadows and the glass of the beads sends the light in unique directions. My wall becomes patterned and it looks like a piece of art or a mural when they are on, yet they also still manage to illuminate my entire room with a soft warm glow.

Photo Observation 4 (hot)

glowing-lava-peter_1413_990x742

Theme: hot

Description: The colors red, yellow and orange are naturally associated with warmth. We connect these colors with fire and heat, so I picked a photo that incorporated these colors. The brightness and vibrancy of the colors against the black rock make the colors seem even brighter than they are and therefore also give off the feeling of heat and warmth.  The colors seem to glow from the picture which makes me associate it even more with warmth.

Photo Observation: Hot

706436main_20121114-304-193blend_m6-orig_full

Theme: Hot

Description: As children we think of the sun as this big hot ball and at the end of the day that is really what it is. This picture depicts how that thought is true. The bright orange and red glow of the burning orb gives off a sense of heat. The colors are also similar to those of a flame.  Across the center of the sun there are brighter orange or golden patches, making the overall color and light more intense. Around the edge of the sun there is an ambient amber light that contrast strongly against the black of the atmosphere. This picture works for the theme of hot since the intense oranges and reds are those most associated with that of heat.

Lighting Observation #4

Date: 2/12/16 Time: around 4:30 pm Location: West 4 Tattoo

Objective Description: The light was coming from a bright white florescent bulb set in track lighting on the ceiling of the tattoo shop.

Subjective Description: As I laid on the reclined leather chair with my arm stretched out getting my second tattoo I could not help but to look up at the light above me. The sterile glow of a doctors office danced on colorful painting and images on the ceiling. For once looking into the light did not burn my eyes because they were so focused on the amazing pieces of art this harsh light illuminated. The light in that moment explained perfectly the vibe of the whole shop… clean, crisp, and creative.
