3) Theme: Happy

4) This photo, to me, seems warm and calm. This makes it seem happy, to be comfortable and content. Despite the people in the photo wearing sweatshirts and pants, the sun seems to be warming the area. The water looks welcoming. These qualities, the qualities that make this photo look as though the world is content and pleasant, make me feel a happiness from this photo.

Happy

This photo reminded me of happy because of the simplicity. When i think of happy i tend to think of relaxing at home where its not to bright and not to dark. A calm dim light rather than overly bright or too dark. Also the christmas lights on the wall remind me of Christmas witch is typically very happy.

4) This is Cinderella’s Castle in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom at night in december a week from Christmas. My high school choir had the opportunity to sing at Epcot’s Candlelight Processional. We stayed for a week and went to the major Disney theme parks. Disney has always had a very intense emotional impact on me. As a child I fell in love with each and every character in the classic movies. I wished I could meet them and I always dreamed of going to Disney World to do so. When my school was contacted about this amazing chance I knew it was a trip I would remember for the rest of my life. At the time of this picture I was with a few of my closest friends. We went through 4 years of high school together and we were all excited for the fireworks display. We sat around the central area in front of the castle and just talked. Moments before it got too dark, we saw a very special moment happen in front of us: a marriage proposal. That set the tone for the rest of our night. The Castle lit up and we were awestruck. It was too beautiful for words. The lights changed to different color schemes and unique christmas displays for the season. We were laughing and having a great time. I didn’t want it to end. That week, and that night specifically, was one of the most pure moments of happiness I’ve ever had.

Light Observation #4

1) 2/21/13, Emily Lowe Hall Room 106, 3:00PM

2) Through the small window on the door leading to the outside, I could see the green bristles of a tree and a bright blue recycling bin. The light shone right down on the green bristles, making it extremely bright and present against the blue recycling bin.

3) The day is cold, windy, and dreary. The light in the room is stagnant fluorescent light. Outside, in a small sanctuary, almost as a mirage appears in the desert, the light glows off the green tree outside. Despite the climate, the lifelessness of the fluorescent lights, the bright colors shine through and provide a feeling of warmth and life. I see the light reflecting off and it gives the appearance of a spring day. I could imagine birds flying, squirrels scurrying, and large amounts of activity outside, just by this small glimpse of green among the gray.

Light Observation 4

1) Friday 2/15/13 10:00 P.M. On the highway about to cross Throgs Neck Bridge.

2) Throgs Neck Bridge at night with its lights. From a distance I could easily see the individual with lights along the bridge’s arches. As I got closer I noticed a bright light blue reflection of the light on the water directly under the bride.

3) Everyone has two versions of themselves. One is the outside: This is the very first thing people see when they meet you. They make judgements based on this you and this is the you that the majority of people accept as “you.” This is who we want to present ourselves as and can be considered the “best” version of an individual. But it’s only a small part. It’s a shell of our real persona. Behind every smile on every face is a life. A person that has his own ideals and beliefs and experiences. What’s on the outside is just what we can see. Once someone lets you in, you really know them. They’ll give in to shyness and timidity to let you see they’re colorful underbelly. That’s when you truly know someone.

Light Observation #4

1) February 21, 2013, 5:15pm, Roosevelt Field Mall; Garden City

2)  I am driving towards the mall going straight, the sun is so bright and shining right at me.

3) As I was driving to make a right turn, the sun was glaring straight at me and I felt the warmth of the sun on this cold and windy day. This light was an inconvenience because I could not see where I was going and it was so much light that the drivers had to be careful not to hit each other and cause an accident. I have not done this in a long time. Even though the sun was extremely bright, the sky had a different purple/blue color to it. Also, this light showed a lot of shadows in front of the road when you drive. Every movement that happens, you can see the shadow move on the ground.

3) Theme: Happy

4) This photo to me means happy because I immediately think of this light shining after a rainstorm. The clouds and the sky are bright and the clouds open up and separate so you can see the light. The sky goes from being in a sad mood to the picture which is a happy and cheerful mood. The weather is warm and kids go outside and play on the streets and parents walk with their friends in the parks and neighborhoods.

Photo Observation #4: Happy

  1. Screen Shot 2013-02-21 at 2.38.18 PM
  2. Photo from www.flickr.com/photos/jjmcclear/335816513/
  3. Theme: Happy
  4. The light in this picture fills me with happiness and joy. It’s movement is vivid with great vibrancy and all of the colors hold a sense of brightness and strength. The light emanates many different extremes of bright shades on the spectrum and electricity gives it a new life. It looks as though the light is moving and dancing around in  great celebration. The texture of the light creates multiple layers signifying wealth in both quantity and quality. The l the way it is moving and shining so brightly gives a sense of ownership and pride. It’s as if the light is saying, “I’m here. I’ve arrived and I’m proud of who I am and I am happy to be who I am.”  The combination of colors, brightness, movement and texture created by the light evoke a feeling of happiness and excitement throughout the photo.

Light Observation #4

  1. 7:30 AM, February 19th, 2013 Netherlands Hague 314 A
  2. A single light source from the sun is shining through my window blinds which are partially closed.
  3. I woke up to the warm, bright light shining through my window. Long radiant rays of gold light shone through each blind straight like that of meticulous lines on the page of a notebook. There was no class that day. I enjoyed not being awoken by the harsh screams of my alarm clock but rather, the gentle kiss from the sun’s rays as they slowly seeped through my window like syrup that gently encompasses a warm, risen pancake. The warmth from the welcoming light gently woke me and it was not harsh nor rushed; It was sweet and beautiful. The light filled the room like the energy that fervently started to run through my veins preparing me for the remainder of the day. The amber orange and yellow light truly shined exuberantly and set a joyful mood for the rest of the impending day.

Photo Observation Week #4: Happy

Foss Hill Afternoon

2) This photo was taken by Flickr user Adrian Cook, on May 19 2012. http://www.flickr.com/photos/adriancooke/7268417630/

3) Theme: Happy

4) When I heard the photo theme was happy, I immediately knew that the photo I chose would have something to do with the sun. I have a difficult relationship with the sun- I am extremely affected by the seasons, and just having a sunny day, even in the winter makes things a little better. This is a picture of Foss Hill, on the Wesleyan campus in my town. The sun is still shining, and you can feel the warmth radiating from the left side of the picture. The sky is clear and blue, and the shadows are long and stretched out over the green of the hill. Although the sun directly in the sky is a very happy feeling, the happiest feeling comes after a long day of working at camp, when you’re relaxing outside with friends and the shadows start to get long, but the day just keeps holding on to the sun, because it’s summer and everything is bright and happy. That is what the light in this picture says to me. The day has been long, and filled with life, yet the sun is still there. It is still happy, and it’s summer, so it will stay as long as possible.
