Night Life

Date: February 6th, 2023

Time: 2:04 am

Location: On Las Vegas Blvd

I took this photo in Las Vegas, I was walking on the street with my family. Las Vegas is the best place to represent night life. It’s a magic place which people all having fun there. I like it when it’s night time, because all the light of buildings will light up and shine as morning, but way more beautiful than day time. This hotel names Excalibur, looks very unreal. The complete dark sky makes it feels like it’s photoshop. And the light on the castle, the red and blue roof even makes this picture looks like a dream.

Photo Observation 3

Photo taken by me on Sept. 30th, 2022

Concerts feel like the epitome of “night life” to me, maybe just because I attend so many of them. This picture was taken at a concert for a band called The Maine – one of my favorite bands – on The Rooftop at Pier 17 in Manhattan, which is an outdoor venue. The multicolored stage lights mix together into this bluish-purple that is reminiscent of dusk or midnight. That string of lights in the background is the Brooklyn Bridge, and behind that a building with window lights on is visible, but what I find cool about the whole image and particularly those parts is that there’s a slight blur to the lights. It gives the picture a hazy vibe that I think characterizes night life perfectly.

Night Life

The street lights convey the vibe of a quaint town and work to establish almost a fairy tail setting while strolling down the street. Although its night, the street lights combined with the headlights on the cars create an even wash of light across the entire street. The sky is also a breathtaking view as the dark navy blue clouds roam in the the majestic blue sky. This moment exhibits the ultimate cute night out on the town.

Description: My friends and I had spent all day at a competition and even though we were exhausted, we still had a hell of a time on the way home. The icons on the car’s dash and bright lights of the bridge create a contrast stark with the dark interior of the van. (this was also the driver’s first time through the Boston area, so that was fun)

Lighting Observation #2

Time: 9:00 pm

Location: Walkway between the Estabrook and Enterprise

Objective: The only light source is a few dimly lit street lamps that line the tree-covered path. The lights cast shadows of the tree limbs onto the dimly lit sidewalk.

Subjective: The lights casting shadows onto the path, with the tree limbs swaying in the wind, give an eerie feeling.

Lighting Observation #2

Date: 02/24/2023

Time: 9:30 pm

Location: my backyard

Objective: Its dark outside and the only light that is on is the motion-censored light right above the trash bin. I was taking out the trash so I was right in the direction of the light. As it hit me, it created a large shadow on the cement of my backyard as well as making shadows of other objects nearby.

Subjective: The large shadows create an eerie yet otherworldly moment. Although the shadows are just reflections of the objects present and myself, the shadows are much more distorted. The shadows of the objects can look like monsters from sci-fi or fantasy films to someone with a high imagination. It added a sense of liveliness to the quiet night.

Lighting Observation

February 19th, 2023 @9:00pm

While my sister was driving me around town, we stopped at a red light and noticed a purple street light.

The street was completely bare and covered in darkness. At a first glance the street seemed completely normal, but the more I looked out into the distance, the more something felt slightly off. Once noticing the purple light, I observed its affect on the street. The purple tint effectively lit the road but left an icy look on the black pavement. This coldness lent itself to an ominous feeling. A haunted aura that surrounded the intersection. Upon leaving the intersection there was a continued eeriness as we drove further into darkness.

Light Observation 2

Date: 2/24/23

Time: 5:50pm

Location: outside the Fitness Center

Objective: The sun is setting way off in the distance, and the lower half of the sky is mostly blocked by trees or buildings. The trees are dark silhouettes against a graying sky, which lightens to orange as it nears the horizon. A couple of outdoor lights on the buildings of Colonial Square illuminate the brick with white light. A window is lit from inside by a yellow light.

Subjective: The sky looks pretty, but cold. The colors don’t evoke any kind of warmth. Looking away from the sunset and into the monochrome expanse of the sky, it is vast and quickly darkening. It’s not quite unsettling but it gives the feeling more and more that something is hidden in the silhouettes. The sunset, by contrast, offers a gentle hint of natural light, while the outdoor lights on the buildings feel very industrial.

Light Observation

Date: 2/23/23

Time: Around 8:15 AM

Location: Netherlands Core

Objective: The sun is still rising, illuminating the tree leaves making them look yellow in the morning sun.

Subjective: Despite no one being awake yet, all the light outside the window makes everything feel alive, the trees glow yellow as if there are higher beings behind them, and the room and spaces outside feel alive with no one to inhabit them.

Lighting Observation

  1. Thursday February 23, 2023 on the corner of 46th Str and 7th Ave
  2. A bright, electronic billboard on the side of a building.
  3. The screen on the side of the building was so bright it changed the color of the sky. It felt like a beacon shining into the sky and changing the mood of the air around me. Looking at the screen face on felt like a spotlight shining directly into my eyes and blinding me. The way that it illuminated the sky was magical because the light reflected off of the clouds like a mirror above the city.
