2) Surreal

3) This is the Aurora Borealis , which looks very surreal to me. Its not an everyday event we are used to, but when it does happen we stare at this unusual and natural occurrence. It makes me feel many things. I feel as if something is pulling apart the world, that something is beyond us . It is such a rare occurrence that we don’t know what to feel when it does happens. Or just looking at the photo it feels dreamy, because it doesn’t go along with how our brains figure the world is supposed to work.

3) Surreal

4) This picture was taken off the coast of Australian. The blue in the water is created by bioluminescent algae. Usually water doesn’t glow like that and the light has a certain unearthly glow to it. The long exposure of the sky creates the interesting effect of making bright circular lines. The combination of these two elements makes for a fascinating and strange combination that looks as if its out of an alien world and unreal.

Lighting Observation 1 (Week 13)

1) Sunday, May 1, 2PM, fields behind rec center.

2) Sunlight

3) I was sitting under some trees in between games at the quidditch tournament on Sunday when I had my lighting moment. I was looking up and relaxing and noticed the sun coming through the tree. The tree was full of pink flower blossoms that were slightly translucent. The sunlight was streaming through all the branches and flowers as they moved in the wind. It was a warm day and created a feeling of summer. The light was crisp and clean coming through the tree and was natural and bright.

Photo Observation 13

ATTRIBUTION: http://www.techpetals.com/download-surreal-territory-theme-for-windows-7-from-microsoft-1055

THEME: Surreal

DESCRIPTION: The parking lot is completely empty.  The mist in the air allows the unusually colored street lights to show up really well.  The lights, normally amber-white, show the entire spectrum of the rainbow.  They go back in a perspective that leads to a single yellow light.  The pole in the center is not turned on and the entire foreground is only lit by the light bleeding from the blue and violet lamps.

Surreal Pic

2) This photo was found on google images and this is the site it originally came from.

3) Theme:  Surreal

4) I thought the lighting in this picture portrayed a surreal feeling because of the intense orange color in the background.  I also thought that the light reflecting off the water also created a surreal or dream like effect.  I think that the fact that the orange light is intense but not bright is what makes the lighting in this picture seem dreamlke.  The shadows of the waves and the clouds and the other dark spaces in the picture are helpful in creating the surreal feeling.

Surreal pic.

2) I found this image through google images search of surreal. It brought me to this website http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.deviantart.com/download/94949512/Surreal_by_surag.jpg&imgrefurl=http://surag.deviantart.com/art/Surreal-94949512%3Fq%3Dboost%253Apopular%2Bsurreal%26qo%3D86&usg=__GWMnWP0ZQZKQJxlPxZYybgY6GWA=&h=1050&w=1680&sz=1203&hl=en&start=184&zoom=1&tbnid=mFTQegFLQgEKZM:&tbnh=130&tbnw=191&ei=mqq-TaS8HsLJgQe96NiqBA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsurreal%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26biw%3D1213%26bih%3D591%26tbm%3Disch0%2C4691&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=117&vpy=260&dur=403&hovh=177&hovw=284&tx=164&ty=114&page=11&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:5,s:184&biw=1213&bih=591

3) Theme: Surreal

4) I found this picture and immediately thought it looked so surreal. The colors of the photo are the major element that gives me that feeling. The colors are so clear and non realistic looking that they even appear dream like. I really liked all the different colors that this picture has. Especially how at the top its the burnt, orange and hot reds, and as the picture progresses down the page you changes into the cool blue, and gray tones. The setting of the picture itself is also very surreal/dreamlike. The blue/gray part of the picture is unknown to me. Is it water or rocks or where does it begin or end? All this adds to the dreamlike, unnatural, surreal feeling that this photo gives me.

Photo Observation 12

1.)Image taken from  http://fransxavegatra.blogspot.com/2010/12/history-made-eiffel-tower.html

2.) Large

3.) I really liked this image of the Eiffel Tower because the light doesn’t accentuate the size of the tower, but instead minimized it. Instead, the size of the fountains is emphasized and made to look much larger than ther are@ In fact, they look almost as big as the tower itself! I looked this and though it beautiful and interesting!

Light Observation:

Date, Time, Location: Tuesday April 26th, 2011; 10:10 PMish, RVC, on a street w/ many bars and stuff

Objective Description: store lights shining on the floor at night.

Subjective Description: driving home from the train station I notice a rainbow of color on the floor and blinding neon lights in my peripherals. When I looked to the sides a unbalanced row of lights distract me from the flow of color on the floor giving a magical glow of color.

Light Observation:

Date, Time, Location: Thursday April 28th, 2011; 2:30PMish, my house

Objective Description: sunlight hitting my house from behind.

Subjective Description: looking toward my house I see a large darkness of house, sharply cut by a flow of light on my lawn. The lighting made a ominous effect, causing a glow of light on the roof of my house with little light on the front face
