3) Theme: Party

4) I thought this picture felt like a party to me because I associate practicals like these to being at a party.  These kind of lights are also used during christmas and other holidays, which tend to have party’s and this kind of lighting is always present.  The assortment of colors also help convey party to me because I feel as though a party in terms of light should be filled with color.  I feel as though this picture conveys party type lighting which is flashy, colorful and vibrant, it should also stick out and feel lively.  Besides the lighting in this picture other lighting that creates the same feeling are disco balls, strobe lights, lasers etc.

Photo Observation: Party

Source:  http://www.mumbaivibes.com/margarita-mojito-and-martini/103/

Theme:  Party

I chose this picture for party because of the light on the bar and how it is reflected in the glass bases and stems of the martini glasses.  When I think of parties, I think of drinking and I think this picture shows the party spirit with brightly colored drinks under a low light.  You can see the light reflecting off the tops of the liquid in the glasses and the fruit that is garnishing the drinks.

Lighting Observation 2, Week 11

Place/ Time:  Walking home in a thunderstorm, 12:30am

Objective Description:  Lightning seen through my plastic umbrella in a rain storm.

Subjective description:  When I was walking home though a terrifying thunder storm, there was a great deal of lighting.  Because of the amount of rain, all I could see through my plastic umbrella was blurry shapes through droplets of water.  Whenever lightning flashed everything I saw was lit up with a blueish-white light, and under the wet umbrella for a split second the light was all that I could really see.  All of the droplets would reflect the light so my whole world appeared shiny, but still very scary.

Lighting Observation 1, Week 11

Place/ Time:  Parking lot near Colonial Square, 1am

Objective Description:  Streetlight behind tree.

Subjective Description:  The streetlight that stood behind the tree, in the dark, gave the tree the impression of having a halo of light inside of its branches.  The whole top of the tree was lit with an orangey-golden glow that made it look very unnatural.  The light was reminiscent of a a distant fire.

2nd lighting observation

1) April 12th – 7:45 p.m – Old Lounge in Lowe: I had my second lighting moment while at rehearsal on Tuesday night.

2) The flash of light from the lighting outside that lit up the room through the tiny block windows.

3) We were in the middle of rehearsal when we heard a crack of lighting and then saw the flash come through the window in the basement on Tuesday night. The small block window like fixtures that are down in the old lounge aren’t see through and when this bright light came through it distorted the natural light from the lighting and shot it into the room. Through the block like windows it made it appear as if outside was completely lit up by the lighting and it had a grey tint to it. When the lighting struck again I was looking out the window and at that moment the light lit up outside and you could see how hard the rain was falling and you could hear how hard the storm was.

1st lighting observation

1) April 10th – 10 pm – Suffolk dorm room: I had my lighting moment while on the fifth floor of suffolk on Sunday night.

2) The light came from the outside. It was foggy and the amber street lights were trying to cut through the dense fog.

3) As I looked out the fifth floor window of my friends dorm room I noticed the dense fog that had seemed to suddenly appear. The fog was thick and eerie looking. It didn’t help that I was looking down into a parking lot and the color of the street lights was shinning its artificial, depressing, amber color. This all added to the feel that the light through the fog gave off. Outside it looked like goblins where on the attack and they were hiding in the fog but would appear in the pools of light that were shinning down below the street lamps. It was dark out and the fog added a grey tint to the night. It was very ominous out.

party pic.

1)

2) I found this photo through google images. The photo came from Michigantoday.net.

3) theme: party

4) I chose this picture to represent party because of all the artificial light that it has. When I think of light at a party I think of the use of different bright colors and as well as the foggy, unclear, hot mess atmosphere that people are usually in when at a party. This picture has all of this and I really liked the colors as well as that feeling of being disoriented and lost in a sea of parters when I look at this picture. I thought it represented the theme well.

1) Mar 3, 2011. 5:14 Dorm Tower

2)Dealer’s Choice

3) Sunlight illuminating past some trees and against building.

4) There was a ray of sunlight that beamed down on the ground. It made me feel great. The shadows made from the trees hit from sunlight added to the good feeling, making it look cool. There was minimal shadow and everything looked like a great day, or evidence of one.

2)Theme: Dealer’s Choice-Creepy

3) I get an eerie feeling when I look at this. When I took this picture I wanted to get a lonely and scary feeling. A feeling that anything can and might jump up and surprise you at anytime. So there are street lights that make you feel slightly safe. Most of the terror comes from the parts not lit much, like to the left and right of the person. The christmas lights add a creepy effect because they try to light, showing you someone lives or lived there, but there’s not enough light for you to trust them. The lights mostly hit the roofs of the buildings. Mostly you get a cold  damp feeling.
