Light Observation #10

1)April 9, 2014 10:05 AM Emily Lowe Hall, room 201

2)The combination of the lights on in the room and the sunlight coming in from the windows made for a different environment than is usually found in room 201

3)In a room that is usually fairly dim, walking into this brightly lit room was an unexpected change. Not only were the fluorescent lights on, but the brilliant sunlight streaming in from the large windows was reflecting off of the white paint, making the room just that much brighter.

3) Bete Noire

4) For some reason, I strongly dislike the color green. For me, this picture represents the feeling that green gives me. I do not feel freedom in green and it makes me feel limited, less creative and closed in. The fluorescent green color seems to be trapping and limiting this girl more than the walls themselves.

3. Single Artificial Light Source.

4. The ray of a spotlight is the quintessence of a single artificial light source. This one majestic beam of light can tell many stories, setting he mood for any scene. As the dark surrounds the room, the bright and conical ray lights a specific area making that subject the focal point. It shines down white beams of light and casts a blue glow around the area. The simplicity of this light wouldn’t distract and audience. Its only purpose is to highlight who is under the spot. This simple white light  can turn an ordinary actor into the star of the show.

Lighting Observation

1) 6:35 PM, 4/2/14, My dorm room

2) The light from outside coming in through the window

3) As I lay in bed, I looked towards my window. The waning light of this beautiful spring day pushed its way through the blinds. The pattern it left of the floor was awe-inspiring, twisting pinks and oranges dancing between linear shadows. Spring has finally come.

3) Desire

4) This photo represents desire in two big ways. The first is through its’ scenario. The hanging lights are all focused in on the one person sitting alone on the stage giving most of the attention to him while the lights of the buildings on the side and big structure in the back illuminate brightly with an array of colors. This signifies a person daydreaming of a life they wish to have with his surroundings mirroring his desires. Similarly, the star drop in the back serves to further propel this scenario into a dreamlike state.

Lastly, this photo shows an actor in a prime acting moment with pit, lights, and all the elements coming together for a picturesque moment. Something that an actor might look at and desire to be a part of.

3. Shadow

4. The sun is shining down on a couple that casts long shadows on to the sandy shore. The contrast of the dark silhouettes pops against the pale blue ocean. The light sand brings out the shadows giving them a deep focus. The two young people are shrouded in darkness. Despite the lack of detail, the characteristics of color and their surroundings make it apparent of their love for each other.

Light Observation

Location: Tuesday, 3/11/14, 4:35 pm, Outside Breslin Hall

Objective Description: The sun reflecting off of the windows of Breslin

Subjective Description: As I approached the building, I was immediately blinded. For the first time in a long time, the sun was bright and hot in the sky. It always seems that when the weather is nice, the sun appears more beautiful. The magnificent beams of light bounced off of the windows of Breslin, and streamed across my face. I felt their warmth. This light represented all that is to come in the coming season, and for the first time this year, I felt like the endless winter was coming to an end.

Lighting Observation #5

1. 11/24/14 at around 10:00 at a shopping strip in my local area.

2. This was a long array of shops that had neon signs, street lamps and big bright letters on the top of every shop.

3. The pitch black night surrounds the bright and highly illuminated strip around my area. Everywhere you look is a different color. The large lettering on the top of the building, entices customers to walk through their doors. From light greens, reds, violets, ambers, whites and pinks, a wide array of lights glow across the sidewalk. In the cold and dark night, this colorful and actively lit area is where you would want to be.

3. Dreamlike

4. It is the crack of dawn on a desolate beach, and the sun has begun to light up the deep blue sky.  Shining over the horizon, rays of red, orange and yellow cast down upon the hot sand.  The beaming sun shines down on two lush trees creating long, dark shadows along the ground. The silhouettes of the trees lie on the seemingly blue sand that hasn’t been fully illuminated by the sun’s inviting rays.  The golden light can fool anybody into thinking they are in a dream.

3) Lonely

4) The sky is softly lit with a dark patch of clouds seemingly making its way in on the left. It looks as if darkness is taking over this picture. The light reflected off the water seems as if its aimed towards the chair, table and flower to emphasize the loneliness with a dark shadow surrounding the circular area of light, making the chair and table feel trapped.
